Tata Harrier, Safari Get New Colours And More ADAS Features

Tata Motors has rejigged the colour palette and introduced more advanced ADAS features on the facelifted Harrier and Safari, in what appears to be a silent update to the model lineup. The Harrier starts at 14.,99 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to 25.89 lakh, while the Safari stands in the 15.49-26.79 lakh range. No major price revision has been done to the updated lineup.
When we say these SUVs have new colours, we’re referring to rejigging rather than an addition of shades. Previously, many colours used to be variant-specific. Some colours like the Ash Grey used to be available on just the lower trims, while Pebble Grey was exclusive to the higher variants. Now this distinction has been taken off, though not fully. Some colours previously available on lower variants have now made it to the higher ones and vice versa. This has allowed for more choices for the customer.
The Harrier is available in the following trims: Smart, Pure, Adventure and the range-topping Fearless. When it comes to the Safari, the trim names are Smart, Pure, Adventure and Accomplished. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the colour palette revisions for both SUVs:
Ash Grey, previously available on the lower trims, now applies to the Adventure and Fearless trims as well. Seaweed Green used to be exclusive to Adventure trim, but now comes on the ‘Fearless’ as well. Pebble Grey and Coral Red, available on the higher variants, have now made their way to Smart and Pure as well. Lunar White is available across variants. Sunlit Yellow remains exclusive to the range-topping Fearless trim.
Stardust Ash and Galactic Sapphire were limited to higher variants alone. These now make their way into the Smart and Pure trims as well. Lunar Slate, previously a lower-spec colourway, is now available on Adventure and Accomplished trims. Supernova Copper, previously an Adventure-exclusive colour, us now available on Accomplished as well. Stellar Frost is available across variants and trims and Cosmic Gold remains exclusive to the ‘Accomplished’.
The Dark edition with tasteful use of Black on the exterior and interior, is now available in higher three variants of the Safari and Harrier.
The facelift introduced new ADAS features on both the Harrier and Safari. The suite then offered 10 level 2 ADAS functions. This is definitely less than what’s being offered by many other manufacturers. Seems like the new update has found a fix for this concern. Tata Motors has unlocked more features and functions on the updated vehicles. Existing owners of the ADAS variants can get access to these updates by visiting the nearest service centre and getting an update installed and calibration done.
The update is known to add Adaptive Steering Assist and Lane Keep Assist (both level 2 features) to the list. Unlocking these would require updating the ECU, FCM (Front Camera Module) and the infotainment screen. The installation takes roughly around an hour and Tata dealerships will get this done for free.
Features already included on the ADAS variants (pre-update) are Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Change Alert, High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Door Open Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
Other than those mentioned above, there are no changes on the updated Safari and Harrier- especially on the mechanical side. The vehicles continue to be powered by the FCA-sourced 2.0 diesel engine that produces 170 PS and 350 Nm on the Safari and almost the same on the Harrier. Both manual and automatic transmissions are offered. Neither comes with AWD/ 4WD. The Safari could, however, be considered one of the best choices if we talk specifically about the third-row space and comfort.
In the Indian market, the primary rivals to the Harrier and Safari are the likes of MG Hector (both the 5 and 7-seater versions) and Mahindra XUV700. There could also be competition from seven-seater versions of C-segment SUVs like the Alcazar.
