Tata is currently India’s leading carmaker, and they are also one of the largest EV manufacturers in the country. They currently have a strong lineup of EVs, and as part of their expansion plans, Tata Motors intends to enter the premium EV segment. A few years ago, Tata showcased their Avinya premium EV concept, and it looks like, amid growing competition, Tata plans to introduce the premium brand Avinya in 2026.

Avinya is not going to be a model but a brand. Under the Avinya brand, Tata plans to introduce multiple models. According to Autocar India, Tata Motors currently has plans to introduce five new models under this premium brand. These models are currently known internally as P1, P2, P3, P4, and P5.

The P1 is the first premium vehicle under this brand, and it is based on the concept that was showcased earlier. The Avinya concept appears to be a combination of a crossover, MPV, and SUV. It is a large vehicle, and it remains to be seen whether the production version of the EV will look the same.

The Avinya P1 and all other models in the lineup are based on Jaguar Land Rover’s EMA architecture. According to reports, the P1 is in the final stages of development, and the EV is likely to hit the Indian market sometime next year. We are yet to see a test mule of this premium EV on the roads.

Tata Avinya P1 is likely to be priced somewhere in the ₹35 lakh bracket, making it the most expensive Tata product on sale in India. Avinya P1 is only one of many premium products expected to come under the new brand.

As of now, there is limited information available about the battery pack and electric motors of the Avinya P1. However, reports suggest that Tata Motors is expecting a volume potential of around 24,000 units per year.

The P2 and P3 models are still under consideration. It is known that P2 was aimed to be an SUV similar to the Kia EV3, while P3 was envisioned as a 4.9-metre-long MUV. The P4 and P5 models have made much more progress compared to the P2 and P3. The P4 will be a lifestyle SUV of a similar size to the Range Rover Sport or Velar. The P5 will be a three-row SUV comparable in size to a Range Rover.

The Avinya P1 will be manufactured at Tata Motors’ manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. This is the same plant that the manufacturer acquired from Ford. While the P1 will be manufactured in Gujarat, the rest of the models might be produced in Tata’s upcoming plant in Tamil Nadu.

With the launch of the Mahindra XEV 9E and BE6 in the market, competition in the EV segment is intensifying, and manufacturers will need to introduce new models to remain relevant in the segment. Even MG has decided to launch a couple of premium products under their new wing MG Select. This year at the Auto Expo, we are expected to witness several new EVs that are likely to enter the market in the coming years.
