Tata Motors’ 400V Acti.EV Platform For Tata Sierra, Harrier And Safari EVs – All Details

In order to maintain its position as the market leader in the electric vehicle segment in India, Tata Motors has introduced its newest and first dedicated EV architecture. It is called the Tata “Acti.ev” platform, and it will be utilized in more than five of its electric vehicles coming in 2025. The most important models of these five new EVs will be the Tata Harrier EV, Safari EV, and the Sierra EV. Here are all the details of this new “Acti.ev” platform developed in-house by Tata Motors.
Unlike the 800-volt EV architecture showcased with the Tata Avinya EV concept car, the new Acti.ev platform from the brand is built on a 400-volt system. It has been designed to base the mass-market EVs that will be launched by the brand in India. This platform offers a balance between cost-effectiveness and performance.
The newly developed Acti.ev platform will come with an 11 kW AC charger for buyers. This charger will help owners ensure that their Tata EVs receive steady charging speeds, making overnight home charging more convenient.
For fast charging capabilities, Tata Motors’ Acti.ev platform will support 150 kW fast charging. Impressively, the vehicle will be able to charge to 100 km of range in just 10 minutes.
Another unique benefit of this newly developed electric architecture is that there is no transmission tunnel in the car. This significantly optimizes interior packaging and offers more legroom to rear passengers. Additionally, due to this, the EV cars based on this platform will also feature a front trunk, or “frunk.”
As this Acti.ev platform is very modular, it will offer various layouts, including front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive. The entry-level models based on this platform will get a front-wheel drive configuration, while the RWD and AWD configurations will be reserved for performance-oriented vehicles.
Another major benefit of the Acti.ev platform is that it will be able to accommodate vehicles ranging from 3.8 meters in length to 4.6 meters. This means that vehicles will range from small SUVs to large SUVs. Additionally, the width can be increased by 250 mm for larger models.
Tata Motors has designed this Acti.ev platform to accommodate electric motors that can produce a maximum power of 225 bhp. The models will range from 60 kW (80 bhp) to 170 kW (225 bhp).
To solve all range-related issues, Tata Motors will add bigger and high-density batteries, providing a maximum range of 600 km on a single full charge.
Another very important aspect of the new Acti.ev platform is that it will support bi-directional charging. This means that other vehicles can be charged using EVs based on this platform, and small household appliances can also be powered by the vehicle.
According to Tata Motors, the Acti.ev platform has been designed to secure perfect 5-star safety ratings in the Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP crash tests. This platform will be made of high-strength materials and will also come equipped with safety features such as ADAS Level 2 and many others.
