What Is 'Lifetime Battery Warranty' For Harrier.EV, Nexon.EV 45 kWh And Curvv.EV: Tata Motors Explains

With the rise in the number of electric vehicles in the market, car manufacturers are coming up with new strategies to make life easier for customers. One of the major concerns that many people who own EVs have is the life of the batteries. Most manufacturers have now started offering lifetime warranties on their battery packs, and Tata is no different. They recently announced the lifetime battery warranty for their all-new electric SUV, the Harrier.ev. This offer was also extended to the Nexon.ev 45 kWh and the Tata Curvv.ev. So, what is this lifetime warranty scheme for batteries that Tata is offering? Let’s find out.
The lifetime battery warranty is actually a good move by Tata, as it would give buyers much more confidence to buy EVs. The term "lifetime" in this case means a period of 15 years from the date of registration. Any vehicle in India, when bought for the first time, gets a validity of 15 years (except diesel vehicles in some regions). This is the definition of the term "lifetime" in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
So, if you are buying a brand-new Tata Harrier.ev, Curvv.ev, or Nexon.ev 45 kWh, the first owners of the EV will be eligible for the lifetime warranty, which is valid for 15 years. This is valid for unlimited kilometers, which is a cherry on top. However, it should be noted that this benefit can only be availed by the first owner.
If you decide to sell your car to another person, the lifetime warranty on the battery pack would become void. However, the second or subsequent owner will still get a warranty for the battery pack. If you are buying the Harrier.ev, the second owner onwards will have a battery warranty for 10 years or 2 lakh kilometers, whichever comes first.
The Tata Curvv.ev and the Nexon.ev 45 kWh variant of the SUV will get a warranty for 8 years or 1.6 lakh kilometers, whichever comes first. Tata also mentions that it is incumbent on every second (or subsequent) owner to inform Tata.ev of the vehicle ownership transfer for the HV battery warranty to apply. Such notification must be made at Tata Motors dealerships.
Apart from this, Tata also mentions that the new lifetime warranty on the battery is now applicable to all customers who have bought the Curvv.ev and Tata Nexon.ev 45 kWh since their launch. This would give early buyers relief too.
The Harrier.ev is currently the flagship model from Tata in the market, and it is also the quickest and most powerful EV in its segment. What makes the SUV different from the rest is the dual-motor setup.
Tata is the first manufacturer to offer an AWD or dual-motor setup in a made-in-India EV. The price for the entry-level RWD model of the Harrier.ev starts at ₹21.49 lakh (ex-showroom), and Tata is expected to reveal the prices for the rest of the variants in the coming days.
