Tata Motors has been enjoying the crown of being the largest electric four-wheeler manufacturer in India for a long time. However, the company is now being threatened by a number of other automakers who are launching new models that are surpassing the sales of Tata electric cars. Now, in order to fight back and maintain its lead in the Indian electric car market, Tata Motors is working on the development of three new electric SUVs, which will be launched this year. So, without any delay, here are the details of these upcoming SUVs.

Tata Harrier.ev

Tata Harrier.ev

The first SUV on this list is the Tata Harrier.ev. The model has already been showcased at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Global Auto Expo. It will be making its debut around March-April of this year. It will be based on Tata’s in-house developed Acti.ev skateboard architecture and boast a ton of unique features.

The Harrier.ev is expected to get a dual-motor setup, which will help it in offering all-wheel-drive capabilities. Also, it is expected to get a more affordable rear-wheel-drive version as well. As for the battery pack, it is expected to be around 75-80 kWh and could offer a real-world driving range of 500+ km on a single full charge. The price of the Tata Harrier.ev will be around Rs 30 lakh.

Tata Safari.ev

Following the launch of the Harrier.ev, the elder seven-seater sibling, Safari, will also get electrified. The Safari.ev is expected to hit the market before the second half of this year. In terms of design, the Safari.ev will boast a similar design to the ICE model. However, there will be EV-specific design cues that will help in differentiating between the two.

As for the underpinnings, the Safari.ev will also get the same Acti.ev skateboard architecture and a dual-motor setup. It will also get the same 75-80 kWh battery pack, offering a real-world range of 500 km. Once launched, it will be competing with the XUV700 EV or XUV.e8, which will also be launched in India in the coming few months.

Tata Sierra.ev

In addition to the above-mentioned siblings, Tata Motors will also be bringing back the Sierra badge to its lineup. This time around, the Sierra will be launched with an EV powertrain, which will then be followed by the ICE model. The Sierra.ev will also boast the exact same powertrain as the Harrier.ev and Safari.ev. It is expected to be launched with a price tag of Rs 20-25 lakh and will rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara.

Tata Motors needs to hurry up before it’s too late

Over the last few months, Tata Motors has been continuously losing its market share. It has been reported that even though the company has managed to post sales of 61,496 units of EVs in 2024, its overall market share has gone down from 73 percent to 62 percent. This is mainly due to the launch of new electric vehicles.

Of these new launches, the one vehicle that has managed to surpass the sales of the Tata Nexon EV and Punch EV is the MG Windsor EV. This CUV from MG has managed to post a sales figure of 13,997 units since its launch in September of last year. All of this has become possible as it has managed to undercut the pricing of the Tata Nexon EV, the previous best-selling EV.

Additionally, Mahindra Automotive is now also coming behind Tata Motors. It has now launched its futuristic-looking electric SUVs, the BE 6 and XEV 9E. The company recently officially opened the bookings for these models, and in just the first day, it managed to get 30,179 bookings. So now, in order to remain on top, Tata Motors will need to launch the above-mentioned three EV SUVs as soon as possible.
