Tata Motors Beats Hyundai To Reclaim Second Position In Car Sales After 7 Months

Tata Motors is one of India’s leading car manufacturers. They are known for selling cars with sturdy build quality. This is something that many customers are considering while buying a new car, and that is reflecting in Tata’s sales too. After 7 months, Tata has now regained the second position in monthly sales. Tata sold 48,462 units of cars in the month of March to achieve this position.
For the last 7 months, Tata was maintaining the third and fourth positions in the monthly sales chart. In the month of March, Tata’s sales volume increased by 5 percent compared to last year. While the monthly sales saw an increase, the company’s market share saw a decline of 0.3 percent when compared year-on-year.
Surprisingly, the third spot was occupied by Mahindra. Mahindra has been pushed down by a position, and it recorded monthly sales of 46,297 units in the month of March. Compared to Tata, Mahindra saw better growth in market share year-on-year. At 17 percent, Mahindra saw a rise of 1.17 percent in market share compared to last year.
After Mahindra, we have Hyundai in the fourth position. The South Korean car manufacturer recorded sales of 42,511 units. This was actually 5 percent less when compared to last year. Just like the sales, the market share of Hyundai has also come down to 12.13 percent from 13.50 percent in March 2024.
Hyundai has been the second-largest car manufacturer in the Indian market for a very long time, and it was only last month (February) that Mahindra took the second position. In the month of March, Tata overtook both Mahindra and Hyundai and secured the second position.
Tata Motors currently has several expensive and premium products in their lineup. They are also focusing mainly on SUVs in both ICE and EV forms. Tata is also extremely aggressive with pricing, which many customers find attractive.
They have models like Tiago, Tigor, and Punch in the affordable segment, while Nexon, Harrier, Curvv, and Safari are there for customers who want a premium SUV. Most of the SUVs from Tata have sturdy build quality.
They also offer a premium hatchback, which is currently the only hatchback in the segment to get a diesel engine option. The car also scored a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash tests. Tata offers premium features like a panoramic sunroof, seat ventilation, fully digital instrument cluster, large infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel, ADAS, and many more features that people find interesting. This makes Tata cars a value-for-money product.
Tata also updates their lineup with special editions and feature additions from time to time, and even that helps them in improving the overall experience for customers.
Tata is also working on several EVs. They currently have the biggest lineup of EVs in the Indian market, and most of them are doing well in terms of sales. Some of these EVs are based on ICE versions, while others are built on pure EV platforms. We hope that Tata and Mahindra manage to maintain their positions in the top three in the coming months too
