In a significant breakthrough for India’s electric vehicle market, the Tata Nexon.ev 45 has just earned a five-star safety rating under the recently introduced Bharat NCAP crash-test norms.

What sets this achievement apart is that the high rating applies to every variant in the Nexon.ev 45 lineup—not just the top-end trims. From the entry-level Creative 45 to the fully loaded Empowered Plus 45 Red Dark, every version now comes with the assurance of top-tier crash protection.

This means that for Indian buyers looking to switch to electric, safety is no longer reserved for premium budgets. It’s built into the Nexon.ev 45’s DNA.

Safety Is Now a Standard Feature

The Nexon.ev 45 owes its five-star badge to a robust body structure and a wide array of standard safety features. Every variant is equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and a rear parking camera. Higher trims offer additional layers of protection and convenience through features like a 360-degree surround view system, blind spot monitoring, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

In Bharat NCAP testing, the Nexon.ev 45 scored an impressive 29.86 out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 44.95 out of 49 for child safety—figures that clearly highlight its family-friendly credentials.

A Variant for Every Buyer: Balancing Cost and Comfort

Tata has segmented the Nexon.ev 45 into four key trims, making it easier for buyers to pick a variant that fits both their lifestyle and their wallet.

The entry-level Creative 45 (₹13.99 lakh) gets the basics right—featuring a 7-inch infotainment system with wired smartphone connectivity, a 7-inch digital driver display, regenerative braking paddles, and multiple drive modes for efficiency and fun.

Move up to the Fearless 45 (₹14.99 lakh), and you’ll find upgraded tech including twin 10.25-inch screens, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, projector LED headlamps, rear AC vents, and a sharper HD parking camera.

The Empowered 45 (₹15.99 lakh) brings in more premium feel with leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and key safety enhancements like a 360-degree camera and TPMS.

At the top, the Empowered Plus 45 (₹16.99–₹17.19 lakh) adds a large 12.3-inch touchscreen, JBL sound system, and vehicle-to-vehicle charging capabilities. Opt for the Red Dark edition, and you also get sporty visual upgrades like blacked-out elements and red interior accents.

Safety Could Drive Nexon.ev’s Comeback

The Nexon.ev continues to be one of the company’s top-performing electric models, contributing nearly 30% to Tata’s total EV numbers—second only to the newer Punch.ev. The five-star safety rating might just give the Nexon.ev a fresh boost, particularly at a time when over half of all new car buyers in India are choosing SUVs. And many of them now want an electric option that doesn’t compromise on safety.

When it comes to value, the Nexon.ev 45 is priced between ₹13.99 lakh and ₹17.19 lakh (ex-showroom), undercutting rivals like the MG ZS EV, while still offering real-world range of 350–370 km. Combine that with Tata’s expansive charging network—more than 10,000 public stations across India—and the Nexon.ev becomes a compelling alternative to both petrol SUVs and more expensive EVs.

Tata Motors has for quite some time made safety a cornerstone of its proposition. And, in that context, this development furthers the long-standing tradition. Tata is expected to bring electric versions of the Harrier and Safari SUVs by 2026, expanding its EV portfolio in both volume and variety.

For Indian families weighing their first electric car purchase, the Nexon.ev 45 is good option with its decent mix of range, price, and now, safety.
