Just a few days after a group of thieves stole laptops and valuables by smashing the windows of four parked cars in Indiranagar, Bengaluru, another such incident has been reported. This time, a software engineer from Tamil Nadu fell victim to a brazen robbery in broad daylight, in Hosur. The vehicle involved is a Tata Nexon. The security camera visuals show a thief.

The CCTV visuals secured by the police show a thief breaking the Nexon’s left rear window glass, to get access to the rear seat. He then takes a bag from the Nexon’s rear row and makes a quick escape on a two-wheeler.

The victim, Bedant Goswami had dropped by the A2B restaurant near Hosur toll gate for a quick breakfast. The 43-year-old engineer was guided by the parking attendant to a secluded corner of the parking lot. Goswami told in a media statement that he found it suspicious to have been instructed to park in a deserted corner despite having better slots available.

The victim and his folks entered the restaurant for their breakfast, leaving their bag at the rear. It had chargers, snacks and clothes and no major valuables inside- as per reports. Now happens the drama.

CCTV visuals show a man (seemingly a local) arriving on a two-wheeler. He waits for some time, looks around and ensures no one is watching. He then takes a tool from his two-wheeler glove box and takes his helmet off. Then, in one go, he breaks the Nexon’s rear window glass. We don’t know what the tool was. It could probably be a spark plug ceramic, as seen in many cases. The thief can then be seen clearing the glass and reaching into the cabin. He picks up the bag, hops back on his scooter, and makes a quick escape.

It needs to be noted how careful and well-planned the thief executed his plan. He came with a helmet and mask on, tried his best to avoid giving his face to the surveillance camera, and skillfully put his helmet on while leaving. The guy seems to have left minimal traceables at the scene.

45 minutes later, the Nexon owner was back after the dine-in, only to find his window shattered. At first, they thought someone had broken the window with a stone, but later realised the gravity of it when they found out that their bag was missing- Goswami told the press.

This incident reiterates how we should refrain from leaving our valuables inside our parked cars, no matter how small/ insignificant the stop might feel to be. It is always advised to carry your laptops, expensive electronics, gold and other valuables safely with you during food stops and other halts during road trips, especially if you travelling to or through a new place.

The Bangalore incident

A few days ago, In Bengaluru’s Indira Nagar Main 100ft Road (near the Global Desi store and Westside ), four parked cars were robbed by smashing their window glasses. Thieves used what a victim calls a ‘special tool’ to break glasses and gain access to the cabins.

More than one people were reportedly involved in the robbery. One would distract the security guards, while the other gets the job done. Post-theft, they would both make quick escapes. Three bags containing laptops and other valuables were stolen in the incident. The victim, in his Twitter post, also reveals that similar incidents have happened in the same lane previously as well.
