The Tata Punch EV has received its first significant update since launch, introducing two striking new exterior colours alongside enhanced DC charging capabilities. Pure Grey and Supernova Copper join the existing palette, bringing the total colour options to seven distinctive hues, all available in dual-tone configurations with contrasting black roofs that accentuate the compact SUV's rugged design language.

The new colours represent careful consideration of market preferences. Pure Grey offers a sophisticated, contemporary appearance that appeals to buyers seeking understated elegance, while Supernova Copper delivers a bold, premium finish that stands out in traffic. Both colours complement the Punch EV's muscular proportions and modern LED lighting signature that can indicate charging status.

Beyond the cosmetic enhancements, Tata Motors has implemented significant charging improvements exclusively for Long Range variants. The 35kWh battery pack can now charge from 10-80 per cent in just 40 minutes using DC fast chargers rated at 50kW or above. Additionally, a 15-minute quick charge session can deliver 90 kilometres of range, addressing one of the primary concerns surrounding electric vehicle adoption – charging convenience.

This charging upgrade specifically benefits Long Range models equipped with the larger 35kWh battery pack, which produces 122PS power and 190Nm torque while delivering a claimed MIDC Part 1+2 range of 421 kilometres. The Medium Range variants, with their 25kWh battery packs producing 82PS and 114Nm, continue with previous charging specifications and maintain their 315-kilometre claimed range.

The Punch EV's existing colour portfolio already offered considerable variety. Empowered Oxide provides an earthy, adventure-ready appearance, while Seaweed delivers a unique green tone that emphasises the vehicle's eco-friendly credentials. Fearless Red adds sporty appeal, Daytona Grey offers metropolitan sophistication, and Pristine White ensures universal appeal. The addition of Pure Grey and Supernova Copper expands choice without overwhelming buyers.

Interior and exterior design elements remain unchanged, maintaining the Punch EV's distinctive identity. The cabin continues featuring a comprehensive 10.25-inch dual-screen setup comprising separate displays for infotainment and instrumentation, both supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Climate control includes automatic air conditioning with rear vents and an integrated air purifier system.

The audio system comprises six speakers including two tweeters, delivering quality sound reproduction. Ambient lighting creates a premium cabin atmosphere, while ventilated front seats enhance comfort during hot weather conditions. The single-pane sunroof adds to the airy cabin feel and provides natural lighting.

Safety equipment remains comprehensive across the range. Six airbags come as standard equipment, supported by a 360-degree camera system providing complete perimeter visibility during parking manoeuvres. Electronic stability control maintains vehicle stability during emergency situations, while the electronic parking brake with auto-hold functionality simplifies hill starts and stop-and-go traffic situations.

Additional safety technologies include blind spot view monitoring, hill hold control preventing rollback on inclines, and hill descent control maintaining safe speeds during steep descents. These systems collectively contribute to the Punch EV's five-star Global NCAP safety rating, demonstrating Tata Motors' commitment to occupant protection.

The Punch EV competes directly with the Citroen eC3 while positioning itself as a premium alternative to the Tata Tiago EV and MG Comet EV. Its compact SUV styling provides greater road presence compared to hatchback-based electric vehicles, appealing to buyers seeking the commanding driving position and rugged appearance associated with SUV ownership.

Pricing for the Punch EV ranges from ₹9.99 lakh to ₹14.44 lakh ex-showroom, positioning it competitively within the affordable electric vehicle segment. The model lineup spans 20 variants, accommodating diverse buyer requirements from basic Smart trim to fully-loaded Empowered Plus S LR AC FC specification.

Real-world range testing by various automotive publications suggests the Punch EV Long Range consistently delivers 260-280 kilometres in mixed driving conditions, with optimal conditions potentially extending range to 300 kilometres. The vehicle enters low power mode at 10 per cent battery charge, restricting top speed to 55kmph while maintaining air conditioning functionality until charge drops to 5 per cent.

The colour and charging updates arrive as Tata Motors continues expanding its electric vehicle portfolio, with the Punch EV serving as an accessible entry point to electric mobility for many buyers seeking practical, affordable, and feature-rich transportation.
