The Tata Sierra, in both its Electric Vehicle (EV) and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) avatars, are two of the most hotly anticipated new cars expected in India this year. Tata Motors showcased the Sierra EV in a near-production guise at the Auto Expo 2025. But even then, the access to the cabin was limited, giving out just selected details about what was inside. Now, a leaked design patent image has revealed key details of the interior design and layout of the production-spec.

A Closer Look At The Interior

The interior of the production-ready Sierra EV will closely resemble the concept shown previously, retaining most details. The dashboard will have a large central touchscreen infotainment unit (likely 12-inches), central AC vents, side vents which are integrated into horizontal lines running across the dashboard, a four-spoke steering wheel, a stepped finish for the dashboard, touch-based HVAC control panel and drive selector lever which could be borrowed from the Curvv EV.

The floating centre console design and the storage underneath could be carried forward from the concept model. Going by the patent images, the production model could ditch the moss inserts which were seen on the concept.

Tata Motors' head of design, Martin Ulharik, however, has mentioned that these could be offered as optional accessories for people who want a customized cabin experience. The manufacturers will also offer a long line of custom accessories like mini flower vases, fold-out tray tables, and ambient lamp shades.

The Sierra EV is expected to offer a standard bench seat layout for the rear but may also include a 4-seat lounge configuration with ottoman-style reclining rear seats, enhancing comfort and luxury.

Sierra EV vs. ICE-Powered Sierra – Different Interiors

One of the most unique aspects of the Tata Sierra lineup is that the EV and ICE versions will have two different interior designs. The ICE version of Sierra, which was showcased earlier this year, features a triple-screen layout, stretching across the width of the cabin. This is unusual, as most EV and ICE models share similar interiors, even within the Tata lineup. However, this differentiation will help create a distinct identity for both versions of the Sierra.

Production-Spec Sierra EV Exterior Design Leaked

Much like the original Tata Sierra from the 90s, the EV carries a curved yet bold stance, incorporating signature elements that make it instantly recognizable. The large, curved rear windows, tall SUV stance, and expansive rear glass area all pay homage to the legendary first-gen SUV.

However, there are some key differences between the original Sierra and the upcoming EV version. The most significant is the transition from a three-door design to a more practical five-door layout. The original Sierra was unique for its large glass canopy, which used to extend to the roof, giving it a signature look. The Sierra EV, while keeping a large rear glass area, has opted for a more conventional approach. Instead of a single-piece glass, the rear features a large window and a separate rear quarter glass, which are integrated seamlessly to pull off a sophisticated look.

The C and D-pillars have been painted in gloss black, adding a floating roof effect that complements the overall design language. EV-specific design highlights include a full-width hood garnish and LED DRLs, large air dams, slim lights, trapezoidal headlight housings, skid plate, signature full-width LED tail, closed-off grille, and good-looking alloy wheels.

Sierra EV: Platform, Powertrain & Expected Pricing

While Tata Motors has not yet disclosed the powertrain specifications, the Sierra EV is expected to be based on the company’s Acti.EV architecture, which also underpins the Curvv EV. It will be positioned above the Curvv EV but below the upcoming Harrier EV. Unlike the Harrier EV, which is expected to have AWD (all-wheel drive) variants, the Sierra EV will have a front-wheel drive (FWD) layout.

Pricing for the Sierra EV is expected to fall in the ₹20-25 lakh range (ex-showroom). The ICE-powered Sierra is likely to launch first, with the EV following by late 2025.

Competition in the Midsize Electric SUV Segment Set To Rise

Once launched, the Sierra EV will compete in the fast-growing midsize electric SUV segment, facing rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, and the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara.
