Tata Sierra EV Production Version

The Sierra EV could probably be one of the most awaited launches from Tata Motors next year. It is expected to be out in the first half of 2025, and the SUV has been frequently been spotted testing. Recently, Rohit, one of our readers managed to spot the Sierra.EV without any form of camouflage and clicked a few pictures of it.

Production-Spec Sierra.EV: What Does It Look Like?

The image shows a good-looking design that does justice to the recently leaked design sketches. It stays loyal to the concept which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. The shape and details are all unique and are loud about having evolved from the 2023 concept.

Like the OG- the Sierra from the 90s, the EV’s production form gets a curved-yet-masculine design with signature elements like a large, curvy rear windows, tall stance and a large rear glass area.

When pitted against the OG Sierra, there are a few key design deviations as well. The OG had a three-door design whereas the EV opts for a more practical and convenient 5-door design. The large glass canopy of the original Sierra extended to the roof as well, and gave it a distinctive visual identity.

The EV also gets a large glass area at the rear.It isn’t, however, a single-piece unit. It gets a large rear window glass and a sizeable rear quarter glass that have been integrated well to give out a likeable aesthetic aura. The C and D pillars are painted Black and go well with the rest of the design.

The orignal Sierra was probably the country’s first compact SUV. It had proportions as interesting as the design. The EV looks stubby as well. There is however, no tailgate mounted spare wheel on the new Sierra.

Key EV design cues include a full-with hood garnish that could house an LED DRL that runs along the width of the vehicle ( we lack clarity on this), large air dams, slim lights, trapezoidal headlight housings, skid plate, signature full-width LED tail lamps, and pronounced body lines. The bodywork gets ample use of Gloss Black trims. The wheels seen on this vehicle do not look like EV-spec Aero wheels. The vehicle could also come with low resistance tyres.

A ‘.EV’ badge can be seen on the front door, like you see on models like the Tiago.EV and Curvv.EVs. We’ll get to see the Sierra EV in more detail at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo where it will be showcased at the Tata Motors pavilion. Spy shots also hint at the market launch happening sooner than expected.

Tata Sierra.EV: What Should You Expect?

The electric Sierra will be based on Tata’s new-age Acti.EV platform. This scalable high-voltage architecture also underpins the new Curvv.EV, Punch.EV and will be used on the upcoming Harrier and Safari EVs as well. We are not certain about further details of this powertrain, but it is expected to offer a range of around 500 km per charge. The electric SUV will likely offer both single-motor and dual-motor configurations. This means the Sierra.EV could come with AWD as well. Further details are yet to surface.

Sierra ICE Incoming!

Tata Motors is also known to be working on an ICE version of the Sierra sometime later. If the newest reports are to be believed, the Sierra will feature the manufacturer’s new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine alongside the familiar 2.0L diesel engine. The ICE version will be underpinned by the new ATLAS platform ( that is also found on the petrol/diesel Curvv). Specific details of these powertrains remain under the wraps as we speak.

The ICE Sierra will make the nameplate achieve the milestone of having a first-in-its-history petrol powertrain on offer. The OG used to come with 2.0L, four-pot diesel engines alone- one with indirect injection producing 68hp and the other turbocharged and intercooled with 90 hp on tap. This engine was also used in the Tata SUMO.

Coming back to the Hyperion engine, it stays special in being the first four cylinder turbo petrol from Tata Motors. This could also make its way into the Harrier and Safari as stricter emission norms spring into action.

Launch Order

Like the Curvv and Curvv.EV, Tata Motors will launch the all-electric form of Sierra first, in 2025. The petrol/diesel version will follow months later.
