Tata Sierra Does A Mahindra XEV 9e: Gets A Triple Screen Infotainment Unit

The country's current largest electric four-wheeler manufacturer, Tata Motors, is gearing up for the launch of the new Sierra.ev in India. This will be the brand's second big launch this year, following the recent groundbreaking launch of the Harrier.ev. Now, before the official launch, a new spy image has been shared online which shows that the upcoming Tata Sierra.ev will come with a triple-screen layout. This is the same type of triple-screen layout which we have already seen in the Mahindra XEV 9E electric coupe SUV.
From the spy image, we can note that the new Tata Sierra.ev, which could be making its debut during the festive season this year, was equipped with three screens on the dashboard. The one in front of the driver's seat is a digital instrument gauge cluster. Meanwhile, the one in the middle is the main touchscreen infotainment system. As for the third screen, it is positioned right in front of the front passenger seat.
This third screen is the main distinctive feature and will cater to the entertainment needs of the front passenger. It will also be a touchscreen unit, making it a lot more intuitive for the front seat occupant. To a lot of people, it may seem surprising, as at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Auto this year, Tata Motors only showcased the Sierra.ev with a double-screen layout.
The triple-screen layout on Indian cars was started with the Mahindra XEV 9E. Last year, Mahindra showcased the XEV 9E with the triple-screen layout, with each screen measuring 31.24 cm. The XEV 9E, in order to provide a seamless experience, also gets Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture and a super-powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor with 24 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage.
Presently, amongst Indian automakers, Mahindra and Tata have started offering the triple-screen layout. However, this unique setup became popular after the German luxury automotive giant Mercedes-Benz started offering it on its flagship electric sedan, the EQS. The EQS gets a one-piece curved screen that stretches across the width of the dashboard and houses three digital displays. It comes powered by MBUX, which is the company's proprietary software.
Modern cars today are also defined as SDVs, which stands for Software Defined Vehicles. These are vehicles where most functions, such as infotainment, performance, driver assist, and diagnostics, are controlled and updated via software rather than fixed hardware. So now, with the increase of SDVs in the market, more vehicles are likely to get triple-screen layouts.
In SDVs, the cabin becomes the primary interaction space between the occupants and the vehicle. And now, triple-screen setups improve human-machine interface (HMI). It divides tasks across three distinct digital areas — driver info, navigation/media, and passenger interaction. With this new setup, the front passenger now becomes more active, as they can now control the infotainment system.
