Tata Motors is gearing up for some major launches this financial year. The latest product from the homegrown carmaker has been the facelifted Altroz. Next up in the line, is the much-awaited Harrier.EV that will go on sale in June 2025. The carmaker has now confirmed that it would launch the highly anticipated Sierra series in India this fiscal year.

The Sierra has been an iconic nameplate for Tata Motors. Its decision to resurrect the same has been amassing much public attention. In its second innings, the Sierra will be available in both the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and EV (Electric Vehicle) forms. The carmaker had revealed the near-production designs of the EV and ICE Sierras previously, and the latter was shown at the Auto Expo earlier this year. The Sierra is currently in its final phase of testing.

Shailesh Chandra, the Managing director at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, in an interview with ET Now, revealed the planned launch timeline for the Sierras. Chandra confirmed that both the EV and ICE forms of Sierra will go on sale this fiscal year, and reiterates that the Sierra is an important product for the company.

This means that Tata Motors could launch the Sierra anytime before March 31, 2026. Clearly, the carmaker has kept the launch timeline vague. However, sources knowledgeable about the matter say that the Sierra ICE could launch later this year, possibly around Diwali, and could be joined by the EV later. We expect the EV to be out sometime in November. Tata Motors, however, hasn't issued any official statement around this.

More About The New Sierra

2025 Tata Sierra

The original Sierra was in fact, the first made-in-India compact SUV. It was indeed ahead of its time and had a striking two-door, four-seater design. Tata Motors seems to have done its best to draw the new Sierra close to the original SUV in terms of styling. Both the EV and ICE versions of the new Sierra got massive public appreciation. The production forms will have minimal design deviations from the original concept.

The ICE version will be the first to hit the Indian roads. It is expected to be underpinned by Tata's new-age ATLAS platform. This is the same platform that forms the base of the Curvv SUV coupe as well. Powering the ICE Sierra would be the 2.0L diesel engine from the Harrier.

2025 Tata Sierra side

Tata Motors is also known to be working on a new 1.5 TGDi turbocharged petrol engine, which could find a place on the Sierra as well. It would then produce 170PS and 280Nm of torque. The diesel engine on the other hand, will likely make 170 hp and 350 Nm. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be offered on the new Sierra.

The Petrol/Diesel Sierra will have a different dashboard layout and feature list compared to its EV counterpart. Even the exterior styling differs notably between the two.

2025 Tata Sierra front

The EV, on the other hand, will be based on the same Acti.EV platform as the Curvv.EV. Under the floor, it will likely house two battery packs- 60 kWh and 75 kWh. The electric motor will power the front axle. Tata hasn't revealed the exact power and torque figures yet. We expect the range to be over 500 km per charge. The automaker could also introduce a dual-motor version of the Sierra, which would give it All Wheel Drive (AWD) technology.

The Harrier.EV Is Important For Tata Motors

The all-electric Harrier is indeed an important product for the manufacturer. Tata Motors has been leading the game in the EV space. It currently has a strong EV portfolio in the mass-market segment. From the Tiago.EV to the Curvv.EV, the range is expansive. The Harrier.EV will mark the carmaker's entry into the more expensive and more aspirational premium EV segment...
