The Sierra is a very important product for Tata Motors. It would mark the revival of an iconic nameplate from the Indian carmaker. Upon its return, the Sierra will have both EV and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) versions. Both are now nearing production, as confirmed by frequent test mule sightings. Recently, the ICE version was spotted on test, revealing more details of the evolving design. The vehicle was heavily camouflaged, and hence, only limited information could be deduced from the sighting.

The video shows the Sierra test mule coming out of an underpass. We get the front, front three-fourth and side views. The design at large, looks almost the same as that of the vehicle showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025.

Though camouflaged, we can make out that almost all design cues at the front remain identical. A notable change that can be seen on the test mule is in the wheel design. When it was showcased for the first time, the Sierra had flashy concept-like alloy wheels.

The latest spy video shows it to be riding on a new set of wheels, which are more production-ready. These are likely 19-inch units. The video also shows the ground clearance of the vehicle. It is seen driving on bad roads, showing just how well this suits the Indian road conditions.

The mule has covered much of its headlamp section with camo, which are likely vertically aligned. The production model will have a full-width lightbar at the front, which is concealed well on the test car. The concept had flush-type door handles, and the same are expected on the production model as well. We also get to see roof rails in the video.

Tata had revealed the ICE Sierra's concept completely at the Auto Expo. It was expected to be almost production-ready. Heavy camouflage on the test cars also point to the possibility of the carmaker possibly revisiting portions of the design. The chances for this aren't to be ignored. We hope to learn more details of the new Sierra's design in the upcoming months.

The production-spec Sierra will likely have broad B-pillars and a wrap-around design for its rear windows. The design will also have a 'floating roof' effect at the rear. None of these can be seen on the test car, due to the heavy camo.

Expected Interior And Features

Inside, the Sierra will have features like a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch instrument cluster, rear AC vents, auto-dimming IRVM, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, 360° camera, Level-2 ADAS (Look closely and you'll see the ADAS camera in the video) and a panoramic sunroof. It will also get a modern steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo on it. The cabin will likely share many of its components with the Harrier and Safari.

Expected Specifications

The ICE version of the new Sierra will be powered by the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that does duty on the Harrier and Safari. It will likely make 170 PS and 350 Nm on the Sierra as well.

The carmaker is also known to be working on a new 1.5L TGDi turbocharged petrol engine which could produce 170 PS and 280 Nm when it hits the production line. It will have a lightweight Aluminium construction and use a variable geometry turbocharger with water cooling.

This engine will use the direct injection technology and is claimed to deliver better torque in low rpms. Three transmission options are expected on the production Sierra- 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic and a 7-speed DCA.
