Tata Sierra is making a glorious comeback, blending nostalgia with modern engineering. Upon its return, this Indian SUV will have both electric vehicle (EV) and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) versions to it. Tata Motors had previously showcased the Sierra EV and the ICE version made its first public appearance at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. It looks like the road trials of the ICE Sierra are already underway. Recently, a camouflaged test mule was spotted on FC Road, Pune.

Upcoming Tata Sierra: New Spy Shots

The vehicle shown at the Auto Expo this year was almost production-ready. However, the newest test mule seems to have heavy camouflage on it.

This is the second set of spy shots and suggest it to be the ICE version that's being tested. The first was shared by Autocar earlier this month.

Expected Powertrains

The Sierra ICE will house the Stellantis-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine that also does duty on the Harrier and Safari. It produces 170 PS and 350 Nm.

Tata Motors is also developing a 1.5L TGDi turbocharged petrol engine which is expected to produce 170 PS and 280 Nm. It will have a lightweight Aluminium construction and will be stiffer. The variable geometry turbocharger will have water cooling.

The direct injection petrol engine is claimed to offer the same power figures as the diesel unit. The torque, however, is slightly lower. The carmaker says that the TGDi engine will deliver better torque in the lower rev range. This will help in faster acceleration.

The transmission options include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter automatic and a 7-speed DCA ( Tata's dual-clutch transmission).

The new Sierra will have a boxy shape and strong body lines. The front fascia will be rather flat and will have a rugged bumper and a high-set bonnet. The side profile will have squarish wheel arches, body cladding, side moulding and flush door handles.

The new Sierra is also known to feature the iconic 'broad B pillars'. Another defining design element is the signature wraparound effect for the rear window. This has been realised by smartly finishing the pillars and roof in Black and seamlessly integrating it with the glass area. The design also manages to pull off a 'floating roof' effect.

The new SUV will have big windows and 19-inch alloy wheels. It will also have ample ground clearance and the same will help in performing better on rough roads and terrains. There will also be full-width LED bars at the front and rear.

Tata Motors has taken care in visually differentiating the petrol and diesel versions of the Sierra from the EV form.

Expected Features

The SUV will have a cabin that's neatly laid out and packed with features. A lot will be shared with the Safari and Harrier. The feature list will include a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, rear AC vents, an auto-dimming IRVM, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a panoramic sunroof. The steering wheel will have an illuminated Tata logo as well. The vehicle will also have connected car features.

Safety features on the new Sierra will include up to 7 airbags, a 360° camera and Level-2 ADAS. It could likely score high ratings in Global NCAP / Bharat NCAP crash tests.

Upon launch, the new Sierra will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and Kia Seltos.
