All New Tata Sierra To Get Turbo Petrol, Diesel And Electric Powertrains: Details

Tata Motors showcased a lot of products at the ongoing Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 (BMGE). It was, however, the all-new Sierra that stole the show. Finished in a vibrant shade of Yellow, the new Sierra ICE was showcased at the Expo. The vehicle garnered huge interest. We now have details of the road ahead for Sierra EV and know what powertrains are to be expected.
Tata Motors will likely launch the Sierra with IC engines in the second half of 2025. The EV will also reach showrooms before the end of the year. Unlike the Curvv, the Sierra’s ICE version will make its entry first. The IC-engined Sierra will have both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol version will have a 1.5L, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 170 bhp 280 Nm. This will be the new turbo-petrol engine developed by Tata Motors in-house.
The diesel version of the Sierra will be powered by the same 2.0L FCA-sourced, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that produces 170 hp and 350 Nm. This is the same engine that powers the Tata Harrier and Safari SUVs as well. There will be both manual and automatic transmissions available.
It is unlikely for the ICE version to get 4×4 technology. Looking back at Tata’s history, many SUV models have had 4×4 hardware in the past. The OG Safari and Hexa have all had it. Tata Motors will base the ICE version of the Sierra on the new-age ATLAS platform.
The Sierra EV will instead be underpinned by the Acti.EV platform. This platform will support both FWD and AWD layouts. The dual-electric motor setup will be the platform. The EV will come with a 60–80 kWh battery pack that would deliver a range of over 500 km per charge.
The IC-engined Sierra is more compact than the Harrier. The design of the ICE Sierra will closely resemble that of the EV counterpart. Like the OG Sierra’s single-piece rear glass, the new SUV gets a black-painted roofline finisher and a panoramic sunroof. This creates the visual impression of a seamless glass and a floating roof. The surfaces and contours are smooth and good-looking. There are also prominent muscular haunches, which increase the vehicle’s road presence.
There is also a bold shoulder line and a notable ‘Sierra’ branding at the front. The LED DRLs get a seamless curve design and look futuristic. The headlamps sit lower down, like on most Tata Motors SUVs. There is even a wide air intake and muscular skid plates. The grille design looks new and different from that of the Sierra EV. The alloy wheels too are different from those of the EV. The EV gets aerodynamic wheels and low-resistance tyres, while the ICE form gets a different set of wheels.
The rear gets a clamshell-style tailgate and sleek tail lights. The D-pillar is bold and Blacked out. This gives the design a strong presence and contributes to the floating roof effect. The original Sierra had a tailgate-mounted sparewheel. However, the new SUV ditches this and goes with a rather conventional tailgate.
Even the ICE version of the new Tata Sierra would come feature-packed. It will have the likes of a triple-screen setup, a four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, a Harman Kardon audio system, a panoramic sunroof, multiple airbags, connected car technology, a driver assistance suite, ventilated seats and more.
