Remember the Sierra concept that Tata showcased to the public at the Auto Expo a few years ago? It was the showstopper at the Tata pavilion that year, and almost everyone became curious about the SUV. Tata initially had no plans to bring this SUV back, but after seeing the public’s reaction and demand, they decided to proceed. Tata has been extremely aggressive in the EV segment, and it looks like 2025 will be no different. The Tata Sierra SUV is likely to hit the Indian market next year.

As per reports, Tata Motors will start 2025 by launching the electric version of the Harrier, or Harrier EV. Later in the year, we expect the manufacturer to launch both ICE (internal combustion engine) and electric versions of the Sierra. The manufacturer is likely to adopt the same strategy as with the Curvv for this upcoming SUV. This means the SUV will be launched as an EV first, followed by the ICE version a month later.

The Tata Sierra was one of the first made-in-India SUVs, and it was, in fact, ahead of its time. It was a two-door, four-seater SUV. Many people didn’t appreciate the SUV due to its design, finding the two-door layout impractical. It was discontinued due to low sales, but it has since developed a strong fan base.

When Tata unveiled the Sierra concept four years ago, they were testing the waters. After receiving a positive response from the public, they decided to move forward with it. The concept version of the SUV was inspired by the original Sierra. It featured a boxy design with a large glass area, just like the original Sierra.

We can expect a near-production-ready version to be displayed at the Bharat Mobility Expo, scheduled for early next year. The production version of the SUV is expected to retain a similar design. Tata’s signature connected LED DRLs (daytime running lights) or welcome bar, LED projector headlamps, and all-LED tail lamps are anticipated.

Regarding the Sierra EV, the SUV will be based on Tata’s Acti.ev architecture. This is an EV-specific platform first seen in the Punch.ev. The recently launched Curvv.ev and the upcoming Harrier EV are also based on this platform.

Like the upcoming Harrier.ev, Tata is likely to offer the Sierra EV in both single- and dual-motor configurations. This means the EV could feature AWD (all-wheel drive) in higher variants.

Details about the battery pack are not yet known, but it seems likely that the manufacturer will offer a battery pack providing a driving range of around 500 km.

The ICE version of the Sierra will have a design similar to the EV version, with some cosmetic changes to differentiate the two (similar to the Curvv and Curvv.ev). Tata is likely to offer the Sierra SUV with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant will feature Tata’s new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo petrol engine, while the diesel version will use a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. The SUV will be offered with manual, automatic, and DCA (dual-clutch automatic) gearbox options.
