Tesla Starts Hiring In India: Entry Imminent?

The American automotive giant Tesla Inc., headed by the billionaire business tycoon Elon Musk, has been eyeing entering the Indian automotive market for a long time. It now seems that the company is all set to make its India debut after a ton of delays. Recently, the official website of Tesla has listed several job listings for its Mumbai dealership. These job listings include job descriptions and requirements from candidates for roles such as service advisor, parts advisor, store manager, and many others.
As mentioned recently, the job listings for Tesla’s Mumbai dealership have been posted on the official website of Tesla Inc. All of these hirings are currently taking place for the Mumbai Suburban dealership of Tesla. At the moment, there are no reports revealing the exact location of the first Tesla dealership that will be opened in Mumbai.
Tesla Inc. is hiring for many roles in vehicle service, sales, and customer support, along with operations and business support. These roles span from service advisor to service technician and service manager. Additionally, there are roles for Tesla advisor, store manager, business operations analyst, customer support specialist, and delivery operations specialist as well.
All of these job listings have covered the requirements from the candidates for these open positions. Also, what exactly the candidate will have to do during the job has been specified as well. In total, there are 13 job listings for the Tesla Mumbai dealership. Most likely, more job postings will follow when Tesla opens other dealerships in cities like Delhi, Bangalore, and others.
In addition to the dealership in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tesla Inc. has also been looking for a dealership location in Delhi. Back in December of last year, the company requested DLF, India’s largest real estate company, to search for a prime location for its Delhi dealership.
It was reported that the company was looking to lease locations in DLF’s Avenue Mall and Cyber Hub in Gurugram. Tesla is searching for 3,000 to 5,000 square feet of space for its customer experience centers. Additionally, larger spaces are also required by the brand for setting up service facilities for after-sales service.
Most likely, Tesla will first launch the Tesla Model 3, which is currently the most affordable vehicle in its lineup in India. This mid-size SUV is internationally offered in two variants. The first is a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version. It makes 283 bhp and 420 Nm of torque.
This variant is offered with a 60 kWh battery pack, which provides it with a range of 584 km. There is also an all-wheel-drive variant that is offered with dual motors making 490 bhp and 660 Nm of torque. As for the battery pack, this variant is offered with an 82 kWh battery that provides it with a range of 549 km. It is believed that the Model 3 could be priced in the range of Rs 60-90 lakh.
As per reports, Tesla is also working on the development of a new and more affordable model—the Tesla Model 2 for India. This new vehicle could be priced under $30,000 or Rs 25 lakh, making it accessible to the mass EV market of India. For this vehicle, Tesla could also set up a manufacturing plant, and this model could be exported to other international markets as well.
