Tesla Model Y Electric Car Spied Testing On Mumbai-Pune Expressway Ahead Of India Launch [Video]

The American electric vehicle manufacturing giant Tesla Inc., which is led by the billionaire Elon Musk, will very soon be launching its cars in India. Most likely, its first offering in India will be the Tesla Model Y, and recently, a test mule of this model was spotted testing on Indian roads. The vehicle was fully covered in camouflage and was seen with a red registration plate, suggesting that it is under homologation.
The video of the Tesla Model Y spotted testing on the road has been shared on X by Ashish Pol on their page. As per the post, this particular Tesla Model Y was spotted testing on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. As mentioned, the vehicle was seen with a red number plate. This suggests that the vehicle is currently under homologation and/or it is awaiting its permanent registration from the RTO.
Reportedly, the first two models in India from Tesla will be the mid-size SUV Model Y and the entry-level Model 3. Currently, the Model Y in the international markets is offered with three variants. However, the Indian market is expected to get the RWD and Long Range AWD variants. The former will be offered with a 59 kWh battery pack, offering a range of 455 km.
It will come equipped with an electric motor capable of producing 231 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. In addition to this, the company will also be offering the Long Range AWD variant, which will come with dual electric motors producing 441 bhp and 493 Nm of torque. The range of this model will be around 662 km, as it will get a 75–82 kWh battery pack.
Recently, Tesla gave the Model Y a new update. As part of this update, it has now received a full-width LED DRL, new alloy wheels, and an updated rear-end design. As for the interior, the Model Y gets features such as a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless phone charging, premium audio system, panoramic sunroof, Tesla Autopilot, full self-driving, and Tesla Vision.
As per the reports, Tesla will be launching the Model Y in India in the second half of 2025. Initially, it will be available in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru. In terms of pricing, the Model Y is expected to be launched in the range of Rs 60–70 lakh.
In addition to the Tesla Model Y, the company will also be launching the Model 3 in India as well. The Model 3 is offered in the international markets in three variants: Long Range, Long Range AWD, and Performance. The rear-wheel-drive model comes with a 584 km range.
Meanwhile, the Long Range AWD comes with a 557 km range. As for the Performance, it comes with a 490 km range. This particular model gets a 510 bhp-generating electric motor setup and can do a sprint of 0–100 kmph in just 4.2 seconds. As per the reports, the Tesla Model 3 will start from Rs 30 lakh. This will put it in direct competion of the Mahindra BE 6, XEV 9E and Tata Harrier.ev and Safari.ev.
For the first 1,000 units of the Tesla cars sold in India, they will be delivered to the homes of the buyers. Tesla will be directly selling its cars online. With this method, the company will be eliminating the traditional dealerships, which will make it a more seamless buying experience for the buyers.
