India's First Tesla Supercharger Is Almost Here: First Pictures From The Ground

Tesla has officially begun its India operations. The first showroom has opened in Mumbai’s BKC. Soon after taking the experience centre operational, the Elon Musk-owned EV maker has now revealed plans for opening the first Tesla Supercharger in the country. The first Tesla charging station in India will open in Mumbai’s One BKC, on August 4, 2025. As you’d recall, the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) has a clear connection with Ambani. It also houses the Jio World Centre and Nita Ambani’s convention centre (NMACC). Reliance is also known to be developing a full-fledged commercial complex at BKC. Tesla seems to have found the perfect place for its charging station.
The charging site has already been set up and is now undergoing testing. Entry to the place is restricted. However, a few images have now surfaced, giving a detailed look at the facility and the chargers. The station seems to be located in the parking lot.
India's first Tesla charging station will have four Destination Charging Stalls- in other words, AC chargers, and four V4 Supercharging Stalls (Superfast DC chargers). These will have V3 cabinets. Tesla’s Supercharging network is claimed to be one of the fastest in business. It is expected to offer charging speeds of up to 250kW in India- the same as what they offer in the United States. As for the tariff, the peak charging speed is expected to have a price of Rs 24/kW and the 11kW charging will have a price of Rs 11/kW.
"This will be the first of the eight Supercharging sites that were announced during the launch in Mumbai, with more planned across the country, to provide the optimal cross-country experience," Tesla said in a media statement.
Tesla says that the supercharger network can put charge worth 267km into the Model Y (which is currently the only model on sale in India) in just 15 minutes. To give you some perspective, this would suffice for five return (two-way) trips between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai and the Gateway of India.
Owners can use the Tesla app to locate the charger and reserve their slots. The app will also give data of the charging progress, and allow payments as well. Though the Model Y is priced steeply, Tesla offers a free wall connector with the EV for easy home-charging. This can be installed at the owner’s residence.
It was in July that Tesla launched the Model Y in India. It has an ex-showroom price of Rs 59.89 lakh. The steep pricing can be attributed to the high import duties imposed on the Model Y which comes in as CBUs. The on-road price in Mumbai stands at Rs 61.07 lakh for the standard car. Tesla, however, offers just a single (Grey) colour option on the standard variant.
Opting for other colour options will cost additional sums. The most expensive colour, for example, can add up to 1.85 lakh rupees to the ex-showroom price. Equipping your Model Y with the Full Self Driving (FSD) suite would cost an additional 6 lakh rupees.
The American EV giant is planning to expand its footprint in the coming months. Currently, people from all states and union territories can make reservations for the Model Y. The brand is now looking to open the second showroom in Delhi. This is part of their larger vision of having a presence across the country.
