Toyota as a brand is known for its reliability. While in India they have a limited number of models, internationally the case is different. The Japanese car manufacturer is now working on another SUV, which is currently being called the Baby Land Cruiser or the Land Cruiser FJ. Fresh details of the upcoming SUV from Toyota have now surfaced online.

Although the upcoming SUV is being called the Land Cruiser FJ unofficially, there is no guarantee that the SUV will fall under this family. As per the details available online, the upcoming SUV is likely to sit below the Toyota Fortuner. The launch of the SUV is likely to be delayed and is now expected in the second quarter of 2026.

It was earlier said that the SUV would come with both petrol and diesel engine options. It will use the same 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel engines used in the Prado. However, the latest reports claim that the diesel engine will not be offered with the SUV initially due to delays in compliance with emission norms. Similarly, the electric version of the SUV is also likely to be delayed. In short, it would only be available with a 2.7-litre petrol engine that generates 163 PS and 245 Nm of peak torque. This engine will be offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The render images circulating online make the SUV look like a smaller version of the Prado sold internationally. The SUV gets a large front grille with the Toyota badge, rectangular headlamps with circular LED DRLs, a rugged-looking front bumper, skid plate, and a small scoop on the bonnet.

The SUV also gets thick black cladding around the squared wheel arches, completing the rugged SUV look of the vehicle. The exterior design of the SUV is boxy and heavily draws inspiration from the current-generation Prado. In these images, even the rear of the SUV looks similar to the Prado.

Coming to the interiors, we don’t have much info available online, but we expect it to be in line with the current-generation Toyota SUVs. It will be offered with a decent number of features. The SUV will be based on a traditional ladder-on-frame setup, which will provide the SUV with much-needed durability and off-road capabilities. As mentioned above, the SUV will be positioned below the Fortuner, not because of pricing but because of dimensions. The upcoming Toyota SUV is 4,500 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,850 mm tall. The SUV is expected to come with a 2,750 mm wheelbase.

The SUV is currently under development, and we are not sure if it will be offered in the Indian market in the future. The most affordable Toyota in the Indian market at the moment is the Toyota Hyryder SUV. Toyota is selling the LC300 in India officially, but the Land Cruiser Prado is not.
