Toyota Fortuner Signature Edition Is A Unique Dealer-Level Mod Job!

Toyota’s gameplan to revive the Fortuner sales this festive season seems to be based on the recently revealed ‘Signature Edition’ and attractive cost benefits. The carmaker has launched Signature Editions on the Glanza, Hyryder, Hycross and the Fortuner. In a recent video by The Car Show, the host gives us a detailed look at the Fortuner Signature Edition. The launch price of this edition is 39.08 lakh, ex-showroom. It is more of a dealer-level customisation than a factory mod.
The video shows a 2024 Toyota Fortuner Signature Edition based on the diesel automatic 4×2, which has an ex-showroom price of 38.21 lakh. The vehicle gets a dual-tone treatment. Unlike the Hyryder Signature edition, here, the dual-tone painting isn’t visually intimidating.
The base colour of the vehicle shown is White, while Grey is used as the second colour. Carbon fibre trims can be found at different places on the exterior. ORVMs also come with a CF finish. There is a Blue line along the meeting points of the two colours. The vehicle also gets roof rails and might remind you of the Legender to some extent. The SUV gets new wheels and the brake callipers are finished in Blue. There are multiple ‘Signature Edition’ badges as well. There is ambient lighting offered too.
On the inside, you can see a lot of Blue. The dashboard, door pads, centre console etc now get soft Touch leather finished in Blue. The seats get quilted leather upholstery and there is Blue on the steering wheel as well. The front seat headrests come with ‘Signature Edition’ lettering as well. You can also spot several gloss Black trims inside.
This special edition has made the Fortuner get tasteful mods and customization and stays clear of any feature addition. It continues with the same set of features and powertrains as the corresponding variants of the standard SUV. It has perforated leather seats, ventilated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen, a TFT multi-information display and a premium JBL sound system. The safety suite comprises vehicle stability control, traction control system, 7 airbags and hill assist control.
The special edition has the powertrain untouched, The diesel Fortuner is powered by a 2.8L engine that generates 204 PS and 500 Nm on the auto. On the manual variant, the torque is just 420 Nm. The diesel automatic thus makes for a very sweet proposition. Ditching 4×4 marginally improves the fuel efficiency but few would prefer a 2WD Fortuner.
We have seen the Fortuner sales decline in recent months. It dropped from 3,698 units in January 2023 to 2,473 units this September. This is a significant fall considering how popular this SUV is, in India. One of the major reasons for this is the extremely high pricing. Capitalizing on their reputation for being reliable, Toyota has increased the prices to levels that might seem unreal. It has reached a point where even the most loyal fans have begun to rethink. Alarmed by this, the carmaker is rumoured to be readying a mini Fortuner to bridge the price gap.
The general sales slowdown in the automotive segment has affected Toyota Bharat as well. The carmaker is trying its best to overcome the same. Launching this special edition could be part of the recovery strategy. It is true that the mod jobs have increased the overall appeal of the Fortuner, which is already infamous for offering less for 60 lakh rupees. This could thus boost sales in the coming weeks, especially during this festive season.
