Toyota Hilux Black Edition launched at ₹37.90 lakh

The Toyota Hilux has set a reputation for itself in the lifestyle pickup truck space. A Hilux Black edition was previously showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. It gathered exciting visitor interest back then. This vehicle has now gone on sale in India. The dark-themed Hilux has an ex-showroom price of Rs 37.90 lakh. Toyota has started accepting orders for the same and the deliveries will begin later this month.
The biggest highlight is the all-Black exterior colourway. The Black edition gets several cosmetic upgrades over the regular Hilux and looks much more menacing. The massive radiator grille is Black and looks serious. Other blackened exterior elements are the bumpers, fender garnishes, fuel lid garnish, ORVM covers and the door handles. The 18-inch alloy wheels and their hubs are also finished in Black.
Even the wheel arch cladding and front skid plate Black. On the regular variants, these are available as official accessories. On the inside, the Black edition gets an all-Black treatment with a Black dashboard and upholstery. The dark colourway has significantly elevated the truck's character.
The all-Black colourway comes on top of the existing 5 colour options- Emotional Red, White Pearl Crystal Shine, Silver Metallic, Super White and Grey Metallic. The 'Black edition' is a cosmetic package and there is thus no change to the mechanical side or features.
The Hilux is underpinned by the same platform as the Toyota Fortuner and Legender. This ladder frame chassis, called the IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle), can support various body styles like trucks, SUVs and MPVs. It is the same that underpins the Innova Crysta as well.
The Hilux is powered by the familiar 2.8L turbocharged diesel engine that makes just over 200 bhp and a peak torque of 500 Nm. It comes mated to a manual and an automatic transmission. On the manual version, the torque output is just 420 Nm.
The Black edition is available only with the automatic gearbox. The Hilux also boasts a 4x4 drivetrain and even has an Electronic Differential Lock along with an Automatic Limited Slip Differential. The vehicle is extremely capable in offroading, and also drives well on highways. This duality in nature is one of the reasons behind the Hilux's success.
The safety equipment on the Toyot Hilux Black Edition include 7 airbags, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, front and rear parking sensors and a rear parking camera.
The cabin can seat four. Being a lifestyle pickup truck, the range-topping Hilux variant comes packed with features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone AC, automatic headlamps, push button start/stop, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dimming IRVM, 8-way powered driver’s seat, cruise control, and a rear camera.
The Hilux was launched in India in January 2022. At the time of writing this article, it has a starting price of Rs 30.40 lakh (ex-showroom) and the range-topping Black Edition costs Rs 37.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
Recently, the Indian market has seen the launch of several dark-themed or Black editions. It was Tata Motors that started the trend of calling Black coloured cars as special editions. In the past few months/years, we saw Tata come up with the Stealth edition, MG launch the Black Storm, and Hyundai introduce the Dark Knight editions. Even the Mahindra Scorpio-N recently got a Black Edition- 'Carbon Edition' as the manufacturer calls it.
