Driving on the beach is risky, and there is no doubt about it. While we have a drive-in beach in India, even that is not safe all the time. Inexperienced drivers often end up getting their vehicles stuck in the sand and are seen asking for help. Moreover, driving on most of the beaches in India is illegal, and authorities can actually fine you for it. We have seen several videos and images of people driving on the beach. Here, we have a video from Kerala where a Toyota Innova got stuck on the beach and was later rescued by a Mahindra Thar.

The video has been shared by kl_boi on their Instagram page. The exact location of the beach where this accident happened is not mentioned in the video. However, looking at the surroundings and the number of vehicles on the beach, it looks like Muzhappilangad beach, which is India’s only drive-in beach. People often take their cars to this beach to drive on it. However, not all of them know how to drive on the beach.

While most of the areas where the cars are driven have firm sand, there are others who try to be a bit more adventurous and push their cars towards the water. Once this happens, the car gets stuck in slush or loose sand. In this video, we can see that the Toyota Innova was royally stuck in the sand. It was either parked very close to the water, and when the tide rose, the MPV got stuck, or the driver took the car into the water. Whatever the situation may be, it is actually not recommended to do so.

Toyota Innova rescued by Thar

The Innova is a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) MPV. The rear wheels of the car dug themselves into the sand and were not coming out. It looks like the people gathered around the car did try to push the car back, but it was stuck badly. Then a Mahindra Thar on the beach tried to pull it out. We can see that a rope was tied to the back of the Toyota Innova, and the other end was tied behind the Thar. The 4×4 SUV slowly pulled the Toyota Innova, and with some help from the people who gathered around at the spot, the Innova came out successfully.

It is quite possible that the people who drove the car onto the beach were tourists. While it is completely legal to drive on this beach, other beaches are not suitable for this. In Goa, this is a very common practice where tourists drive their cars or rented cars to the beach and find themselves in trouble. The Goa government has banned any private vehicles from entering the beaches. This step was taken a few years ago after a number of tourists entered the beaches with private vehicles and got stuck. Some of them are even seen driving on protected beaches, which are actually nesting grounds for protected species of sea turtles. In the past, the police have taken action against such tourists. However, in this case, it was purely the ignorance or inexperience of the driver that got him into trouble.
