The upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric has recently undergone the stringent Euro New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP). Like its badge-engineered counterpart Suzuki e Vitara, the Urban Cruiser Electric has also managed to score a respectable 4-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP tests. Like the e Vitara, this EV SUV from Toyota will also be manufactured in Gujarat, and it is based on the same HEARTECT-e platform.

Adult Occupant Protection – 77%

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric was first crash-tested for Adult Occupant Protection and it has managed to achieve 77 percent protection. The vehicle underwent a frontal impact test, and it was stated that the passenger compartment remained stable. Also, the protection for the knees and femurs of both drivers and passengers was good.

It also underwent a side impact crash test which includes mobile barrier and pole tests. It offered good protection in those tests, as stated by Euro NCAP. Other tests for Adult Occupants included far-side impact, rear-end collision, and whiplash tests. The vehicle also scored 2.2 out of 4 in rescue and extrication tests.

Child Occupant Protection – 85%

When tested for Child Occupant Protection, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric was able to score 85 percent. Euro NCAP tested the vehicle with a 6-year-old and a 10-year-old child dummy. In the frontal and side impact tests, the vehicle offered good protection for all critical body areas. The vehicle also gets ISOFIX and i-Size installations, which were tested by the organisation.

Vulnerable Road Users – 79%

Additionally, this particular electric SUV from Toyota was also tested to check the impact protection of Vulnerable Road Users. It was found that the head protection for struck pedestrians was adequate. The pelvis protection had mixed results; meanwhile, the femur, knee, and tibia protection were rated good.

Under the impact mitigation tests, the vehicle scored different results. The Automatic Emergency Braking for pedestrians was rated 5.9/9, and AEB for cyclists was rated 7.8/8. In cyclist dooring prevention, it scored 0, and AEB for motorcyclists was rated at 5.3/6.

Safety Assist Features – 72%

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric comes packed with safety features. In speed assistance, it scored 2.1/3; occupant status scored 1.5/3, lane support 2.5/3, and for AEB car-to-car it was 7.0/9. Overall, it was noted that the Urban Cruiser Electric is a very safe car.

As stated earlier, the Urban Cruiser Electric is a mechanically identical twin of the Suzuki e Vitara. In terms of the battery packs and powertrain options, the e Vitara and the Urban Cruiser Electric will be offered with two battery pack options. The first will be a 49 kWh unit, and the second will be a 61 kWh battery pack.

The 49 kWh battery pack model will come with 144 bhp and 189 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, there will be a 174 bhp and 189 Nm torque variant as well. Lastly, the company will also be offering a dual-motor AWD variant with 184 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. The range on the top-of-the-line model is expected to be around 500 km.
