Toyota’s First Electric Car For India: All You Need To Know

The Indo-Japanese automotive giant Toyota Kirloskar Motor, or Toyota Bharat, will soon be launching its first all-electric vehicle, the Urban Cruiser Electric, in India. This new model, which will be based on the recently unveiled Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, will help Toyota enter the EV market in the country. Today, we will provide you with all the details of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric SUV, which will be making its official debut before the end of this year.
First off, let’s talk about the exterior design details of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric SUV. This upcoming all-electric SUV will have the exact same dimensions as the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. However, there are a ton of stylistic changes that will differentiate the two electric SUVs. At the front, the Toyota EV SUV will get a connecting LED DRL with LED projector headlights.
It will also boast gloss black elements on the front grille, and the front bumper will also get two air channels on the extreme ends. Moving on to the side profile, the Urban Cruiser Electric SUV will be offered with 19-inch aeroblade-style alloy wheels and chunky side claddings on the doors and wheel arches.
Moving to the rear, this SUV will look exactly like the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. The only major difference will be the Toyota badge in the middle of the tailgate. Apart from this, the same connected clear LED taillights and a chunky rear bumper with lots of black plastic will remain the same.
As for the interior design, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric SUV will continue to use the same layout as its Maruti Suzuki sibling. It will come equipped with a connected dual display consisting of a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.3-inch digital instrument gauge cluster.
It will also get vertically positioned air vents, and controls for the drive mode selection and an electronic parking brake will be on the center console. This EV SUV will come loaded with features such as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered driver’s seat, JBL premium audio, ambient lighting, a sunroof, and a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel.
In terms of safety features, Toyota will be offering the Urban Cruiser Electric SUV with six airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, an electronic stability program, and ADAS Level 2. Its suite of ADAS will include features such as a collision avoidance system, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and many others.
Coming to the most important highlight of the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric SUV—its powertrain. This SUV, like the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, will be offered with two different options. The first will be a 49 kWh battery pack, which will be paired with an electric motor offering a power output of 144 bhp and 189 Nm of torque. Its range will be around 500 km on a single full charge.
The other powertrain option will be a 61 kWh battery pack, which will be offered with an electric motor producing 174 bhp and 189 Nm of torque. There will also be an AWD variant as well, which will get an additional motor in the rear making 65 bhp, totaling the power output to 184 bhp and 300 Nm of torque.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 20-25 lakh. Once launched, it will be taking on rivals like the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, Tata Harrier.ev, Mahindra BE 6, and Hyundai Creta Electric.
