Tata Motors recently showcased the petrol/diesel (ICE) version of the Sierra at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. The SUV will have its market launch later this year. The vehicle will borrow its 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine from the Harrier and Safari. There will also be a new turbocharged petrol engine (1.5-litre tGDi) on offer.

Inside, the Sierra will have a triple-screen layout along with the familiar 4-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo at the centre.

2&3 Safari And Harrier Petrol

Tata Motors is reportedly working on a new turbocharged petrol engine for the Harrier and Safari. We expect the petrol-powered SUVs to be out in the second half of 2025. This petrol powerhouse was originally supposed to be out by 2024. A newly-developed 1.5-litre tGDi four-cylinder petrol engine will be used on these SUVs. It will be able to produce 168 hp and 350 Nm. This is in fact, the same power as the FCA-sourced diesel engine. The petrol powertrain will offer the choice of a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox.

4. Mahindra XUV700 Facelift

The XUV 700 has been around for a while and is due for a mid-life facelift. The new SUV will likely go on sale in the second half of 2025. It could also be renamed to XUV7XO upon launch. Mahindra had trademarked this name last year.

The facelift is expected to come with an updated designm revised interiors and new features. Minimal mechanical changes are to be expected. The familiar 2.2-litre mHawk diesel and 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engines will be used on the new SUV as well. The transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.

Maruti Suzuki is readying a new 7-seater SUV based on the Grand Vitara. It is expected to launch sometime in 2025. The model is internally called the Y17, and will have a Toyota counterpart as well. The 3-row SUV was previously spied on test in India. It will be based on Suzuki’s Global C platform. The powertrain combinations will include the familiar strong hybrid and 1.5 litre K15C naturally aspirated petrol units. In dimensions, the 3-row SUV will be significantly larger than the Grand Vitara. It could possibly have a longer wheelbase.

7. Honda ZR-V Hybrid

Honda will launch the ZR-V hybrid SUV in India later this year. It will be brought in as CBU units. It looks like the carmaker is yet to take a final call on this. The ZR-V is essentially a crossover SUV based on the global Civic and made its global debut in 2022. In many international markets, it is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine, mated to a dual-motor strong hybrid setup. The combined output here is around 180 bhp. The SUV will come with AWD and an eCVT transmission.
