The number of models in Volkswagen India’s lineup has drastically decreased over the years. A few years ago, they discontinued the popular Polo hatchback along with several sedans and SUVs. However, as part of a new strategy, the German car manufacturer is now planning to expand its portfolio once again. Here we have a list of five upcoming Volkswagen cars and SUVs for the Indian market.

ID.4

This will be the first electric vehicle from Volkswagen in India. The manufacturer officially showcased the ID.4 crossover earlier this year, and it is expected to launch in India by the end of 2024. It will be sold as a CBU, which means it is not going to be cheap. Volkswagen currently plans to launch the ID.4 in 10 cities across the country.

The ID.4 is based on Volkswagen’s dedicated MEB architecture. Internationally, the crossover is available with 52 kWh and 77 kWh battery packs. Volkswagen is expected to launch the larger battery version in the Indian market.

Taigun Facelift

The mid-size SUV Taigun has been in the market for more than two years. A facelift for this compact SUV is due, and it looks like Volkswagen will be updating it soon. Compared to its rivals, the Taigun offers limited features, which is something that many people have been complaining about.

Volkswagen may resolve this issue with the facelift. The updated Taigun is expected to come with more features, such as Level 2 ADAS and a panoramic sunroof, which has become common in this segment. We are also expecting minor design changes to the exterior. The Taigun facelift is expected to launch early 2026.

Virtus Facelift

Like the Taigun, a facelift is due for the Virtus sedan as well. The Virtus will receive cosmetic updates along with new features such as ADAS and a panoramic sunroof. Mechanically, the sedan will remain the same, offering the 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI engines. The Virtus facelift is expected to launch in the middle of 2026.

Tayron

The next launch from Volkswagen in India is the Tayron SUV. This is a 7-seater SUV that will be introduced as a replacement for the Tiguan Allspace. It will be offered as a CKD (completely knocked down unit) and is expected to launch by the end of 2025. The Tayron will compete with the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.

Internationally, the SUV is available with a variety of engine options, but the Indian version is most likely to get a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with an AWD system.

Sub-4 Meter SUV

The latest addition to this list is the sub-4 meter SUV. Volkswagen has been hesitant about entering this segment for several reasons. However, the company has now decided to change its strategy and enter the sub-4 meter SUV market.

It will essentially be Volkswagen’s version of the Skoda Kushaq. The SUV will primarily be offered with a 1.0-litre TSI engine, but there is a possibility that Volkswagen might launch a GT edition with the larger 1.5-litre TSI engine. The sub-4 meter SUV from Volkswagen is expected to launch by 2026.
