Toyota Innova HyCross And HyRyder Hybrids Get Discounts Of Upto Rs. 3.1 Lakh: Conditions Apply

The Union Minister Nitin Gadkari shared that he wishes to bring down the GST on hybrid cars to make them more accessible to customers. However, the Finance Ministry has rejected this proposal as it aims to boost the sales of EVs at the moment. Nevertheless, people living in Uttar Pradesh have a different story to tell. According to a recent report, the Uttar Pradesh government has waived the road tax completely on strong hybrid cars.
Espirit Toyota, a popular Toyota dealership in Uttar Pradesh, has posted about this on their social media platforms. According to the post, if you buy strong hybrid cars like the Toyota Innova Hycross, Toyota Hyryder, and Toyota Camry, you don’t have to pay the road tax. The post mentions that for the Toyota Camry, a customer can get benefits of up to Rs 4.4 lakh, Rs 2 lakh worth of benefits on the Toyota Hyryder, and Rs 3.10 lakh worth of benefits on the Innova Hycross. The expensive MPV from Toyota, Vellfire, would also benefit from this offer.
This road tax waiver is not limited to Toyota models only. It appears that the Uttar Pradesh government has exempted strong hybrid vehicles from road tax to make them more accessible to customers. Cars like the Maruti Suzuki Invicto, Grand Vitara, and Honda City Hybrid are also eligible for these discounts. With these discounts in place, people who have an address proof from Uttar Pradesh can benefit from these savings.
People planning to buy the regular petrol versions of these cars can consider the strong hybrid versions as there is not much difference in the on-road price of both models. While this offer is currently limited to dealerships in Uttar Pradesh, there is a chance that other neighboring states might follow suit and offer these benefits to their customers.
Why Strong Hybrid?
In a strong hybrid car, the petrol engine works along with an electric motor. This system is different from the mild hybrid system, which only provides assistance to the engine at lower speeds. In the strong hybrid system, the car can be powered by the petrol engine, the electric motor, or a combination of both.
When you start the vehicle, the electric motor helps move the car forward. After reaching a certain speed, it seamlessly shifts to the petrol engine. While the petrol engine is running, the battery placed in the boot or floor of the car gets recharged automatically. It also comes with an EV-only mode where the petrol engine is completely shut off, and the car runs solely on the electric motor.
The main benefit of this system is fuel efficiency. There are fewer emissions compared to a regular petrol car, and it is more efficient as well. Compared to an EV, it is flexible as one doesn’t have to stop to charge the batteries. For a country like India where the lack of charging infrastructure and range anxiety is a concern among many buyers who are planning for an EV, we feel strong hybrids are a better option. So if you are from Uttar Pradesh and planning to buy a strong hybrid car, now is the right time to go and buy one.
