Vinfast VF3 Electric Microcar Confirmed For India: To Challenge Tata Tiago.EV, MG Comet

Vietnamese electric car manufacturer VinFast showcased their models at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. It was not just a simple unveiling, but the brand’s official launch into the Indian market was also confirmed then. VinFast even has plans to set up a manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. VinFast has now confirmed that they’ll be bringing in their mass-market model to India. Not only did they confirm this, but they also provided a timeline for when we can expect it.
Talking to Autocar Professional, Pham Sanh Chau, MD and CEO of VinFast Asia, said that the company has plans to launch its products in India by the second half of 2025. They are currently working on their manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and are doing their best to speed things up from their end.
Talking about the models, Pham Sanh Chau said that the VF7 electric SUV will be the first to be launched in the Indian market. Their plan is to bring the highest model in the mid-premium space, as they are focusing on high-end customers in the middle class. After the VF7, VinFast will launch the VF6, followed by the VF3.
With the manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, VinFast plans to start with CKD operations. They are also looking for local suppliers to bring down production costs in the future. The manufacturing facility will start with a capacity of 50,000 units a year and will later be expanded to 1,50,000 units. The facility can assemble or manufacture both RHD and LHD models. It can also support models like the VF3, VF5, and e34.
The VinFast VF3 was one of the products displayed by the brand at the Auto Expo this year. It is a mini EV capable of competing with the MG Comet and Tata Tiago EV. The VF3 is 1,679 mm wide, 1,652 mm tall, and 3,190 mm long. The mini EV offers a ground clearance of 191 mm, and the wheelbase is 2,075 mm.
It gets a very boxy design with SUV-like elements. The front grille is a gloss black unit with V-shaped design elements on it. The VinFast logo can be seen at the center, with chrome appliqués extending toward the headlamps. The headlamps are projector units with halogen turn indicators on top. The bumper is partially finished in body color, while the lower part of the bumper is finished in black.
On the side profile, you can see thick black claddings, manual ORVMs, steel rims, and so on. The VF3 gets a floating roof design with blacked-out A, B, and C pillars. We have to see if VinFast will make any changes to the wheels for the Indian market or if they will remain the same. At the rear, we get rectangular tail lamps with a gloss black appliqué connecting them. A chrome element, similar to the one at the front, is visible here as well.
The VF3 has a very basic interior with a 10-inch touchscreen that acts as both an infotainment system and an instrument cluster. It doesn’t offer a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel; however, it does feature fabric seats, AC, a manually dimming IRVM, several cubby holders, a stalk-type gear selector, power windows, and more.
The charging port is placed on the fender, and it supports both AC and DC fast charging. It uses an 18.64 kWh battery pack, which is connected to an electric motor that generates 42 PS and 110 Nm of peak torque. The micro or mini EV has a claimed range of 210 km.
