Vinfast VF6, VF7 Variants Revealed For India

Vietnmese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has officially revealed the variant lineup for its highly anticipated VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs ahead of their festive season launch. The company has disclosed that the VF7 will arrive in three variants whilst the smaller VF6 will be offered in two configurations, marking a strategic approach to capture different segments of the burgeoning electric vehicle market.
The VF7, positioned as VinFast's flagship offering for the domestic market, will be available in Earth, Wind, and Sky variants. These trim levels represent a departure from the international specification, where the VF7 is offered in just two variants: Eco and Plus. This three-tier approach suggests VinFast has carefully studied local preferences and is attempting to provide options across different price points whilst maintaining a premium positioning.
The smaller VF6, designed as a more accessible entry point into the VinFast ecosystem, will be offered in Earth and Wind variants. This two-variant strategy mirrors the approach taken by several successful manufacturers in the market, providing a basic specification for price-conscious buyers and a higher-specification variant for those seeking additional features.
Colour options remain consistent across both models, with VinFast offering six distinct hues: Jet Black, Desat Silver, Infinity Blanc, Crimson Red, Zenith Grey, and Urban Mint. This comprehensive palette ensures buyers can personalise their vehicles regardless of which variant or model they choose. The availability of all colours across all trim levels is unusual in the segment, where manufacturers typically restrict premium colours to higher variants.
Interior themes differentiate the variants more significantly than exterior colours. The entry-level Earth variants in both models feature an all-black theme that emphasises sophistication and practicality. The higher-specification Wind and Sky variants receive a distinctive Mocha Brown and black dual-tone theme that adds warmth and visual interest to the cabin environment.
The VF7's technical specifications reveal impressive capability across its powertrain options. The SUV utilises a 70.8kWh battery pack that can be paired with either single-motor front-wheel-drive or dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.
The single-motor setup produces 204PS, whilst the dual-motor variant delivers a substantial 354PS with 500Nm of torque. Range figures stand at up to 496km according to NEDC testing protocols, though final certification figures for local conditions are still pending.
Performance credentials of the VF7 AWD variant are particularly noteworthy, with VinFast claiming a 0 to 100kph acceleration time of just 5.8 seconds. This places it firmly in sports car territory whilst maintaining the practicality of a family SUV. The single-motor variant, whilst less dramatic, still achieves the century sprint in a respectable 9.5 seconds.
The VF6 employs a more modest approach with its 59.6kWh battery pack exclusively paired with a single front-mounted motor. Power output reaches 201PS with 310Nm of torque, enabling a 0 to 100kph time of approximately 9 seconds. Despite the smaller battery, the VF6 achieves an impressive claimed range of up to 470km, demonstrating efficient power management and aerodynamic optimisation.
Both vehicles showcase VinFast's commitment to advanced technology integration. The feature list includes a 12.9-inch driver-oriented touchscreen infotainment system that replaces traditional digital instrument clusters with a head-up display arrangement. This approach creates a more futuristic cabin environment whilst potentially reducing driver distraction by keeping essential information in the direct line of sight.
Safety specifications suggest VinFast is targeting premium market positioning. Both models are expected to feature up to eight airbags, 360-degree camera systems with blind spot monitoring, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. The ADAS suite includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking, bringing cutting-edge safety technology to what are expected to be competitively priced vehicles.
The manufacturing strategy behind these models represents a significant investment in local production. VinFast has established a 400-acre manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu with an initial capacity of 50,000 units annually, expandable to 150,000 units based on demand. This local production approach should enable competitive pricing whilst avoiding the import duties that have hindered other international EV manufacturers.
Pricing expectations suggest the VF7 will start around ₹50 lakh ex-showroom, positioning it against premium offerings like the BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and BMW iX1 LWB. The VF6, with an expected starting price of ₹25 lakh, would compete with popular models including the Hyundai Creta EV and Mahindra BE 6.
The dealership network rollout reflects VinFast's aggressive expansion plans. The company has signed agreements to establish 32 dealerships across 27 cities, covering major metropolitan areas and emerging EV markets.
Cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune will receive priority focus, with tier-2 cities like Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Bhubaneswar also included in the initial rollout.
VinFast's parent company, Vingroup, brings significant resources and ecosystem thinking to the venture. The conglomerate operates across multiple sectors including real estate, retail, and technology, potentially enabling integrated solutions around EV ownership including charging infrastructure, maintenance services, and even mobility-as-a-service offerings.
Production timelines suggest both vehicles will reach showrooms during the festive season, traditionally the strongest period for automotive sales. This timing, combined with the novelty of a new brand and the appeal of Vietnamese engineering, could generate significant initial interest among early adopters and technology enthusiasts.
