Volkswagen a few weeks ago announced the launch of their two new products, Tiguan R-Line and Golf GTI, in India. The official launch of the Tiguan R-Line will happen on April 14, and soon after that, the brand will be launching the hot hatchback Golf GTI in the market. Before its official launch, the Golf GTI has already reached India, and images of the GTI with an Indian number plate have surfaced online.

The images have been shared by a user on Reddit. The car has been spotted undisguised in Mumbai. The Maharashtra registration number plate of the car is clearly visible in the images, and we ran the numbers online and found that the car was registered under the name of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd.

It looks like the hatchback was spotted at the entrance of a hotel or a commercial building in Mumbai. The car had stopped for a security check before entering the premises. The car spotted here is finished in a very sporty shade of Moonstone Grey Black.

This will be the most expensive hatchback to be sold in India by Volkswagen to date. The Golf GTI is going to be sold as a CBU, and that will reflect in its pricing too. The GTI is expected to cost around Rs 45–50 lakh. As this is a CBU, Volkswagen will only be bringing 250 units of the Golf GTI to India.

Design

We are getting the updated version of the GTI in the Indian market. The hot hatchback comes with sleek-looking headlamps with a connecting LED bar that links the headlamps. We see GTI branding on the grille with a sporty-looking front bumper.

The bumper has hexagonal patterns, and the fog lamps are neatly integrated inside the pattern. One of the images gives us a glimpse of the side profile of the Golf GTI too. The hatchback gets large 19-inch wheels with a 5-spoke machine-cut design.

We see red inserts inside the headlamps and also on the brake calipers. The GTI badge on the front door is also finished in red. The roof is completely blacked out for a sporty appeal. We don’t see much use of chrome on the outside, as this is not a made-in-India car.

The rear of the hot hatch gets sleek all-LED tail lamps, a roof-mounted spoiler, twin exhaust tips, and a sporty-looking bumper. We see the GTI badge under the Volkswagen logo on the tailgate as well.

Interior

Coming to the interiors, the upcoming GTI is likely to get a dark-themed cabin with red inserts in various places. There will be a 12.9-inch floating-type touchscreen infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster, paddle shifters, Type-C charging ports, gear selector knob, and more.

The Golf GTI will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which is known by its codename EA888. This engine will generate 265 Bhp and 370 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission, and the car can do 0–100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds.
