Volkswagen Taigun Sees Big Price Update: One Variant Gets Rs. 1.43 Lakh Cheaper

Volkswagen India has revised the prices of its Taigun mid-size SUV, offering sizeable cuts on a few variants while increasing prices slightly on others. These changes are part of the carmaker’s efforts to stay competitive in India’s hotly contested SUV market, where models like the Kia Seltos and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are fighting for attention.
The most substantial price drops have been reserved for two popular variants of the 1.0-litre TSI engine:
• The Highline 1.0 AT now costs ₹15.43 lakh (ex-showroom), down by ₹1.43 lakh.
• The Highline 1.0 MT has been reduced by ₹88,500, bringing its new price to ₹13.88 lakh.
These revised prices significantly improve the value proposition of the Taigun’s mid-range models, especially for buyers looking for a well-equipped automatic SUV without crossing the ₹16 lakh mark.
That said, Volkswagen has also increased prices across other non-GT variants by ₹13,000. The sporty GT 1.5 MT and DSG variants, however, remain untouched, continuing to hold their position as premium, performance-focused options in the line-up.
There are no mechanical changes to the Taigun with this update. It continues to be offered with two turbo-petrol engines:
• A 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder TSI engine mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. This engine produces 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque.
• A more powerful 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder TSI engine available with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch automatic). It puts out 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque.
The 1.5-litre engine also comes with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), which shuts off two cylinders under light load to boost fuel efficiency. Official ARAI figures claim up to 19.01 kmpl for this engine.
With the updated pricing, the Taigun becomes a more attractive proposition against competitors like the Kia Seltos and Toyota Hyryder. Here’s how they compare in key areas:
While the Seltos leans towards tech-savvy buyers and the Hyryder appeals to mileage-conscious families, the Taigun continues to attract those who prioritise safety, refinement, and driving pleasure.
For many buyers, pricing plays a huge role in deciding between similarly specced SUVs. With the latest revision:
These price adjustments come just ahead of the expected launch of the Tiguan R-Line, indicating a broader refresh in Volkswagen’s SUV portfolio.
For potential Taigun buyers, the sweet spot now seems to be in the mid-spec variants, especially for those who were earlier on the fence due to price considerations. However, the ₹13,000 hike on entry and top-end trims may slightly temper the excitement for those specific options.
As of now, delivery timelines remain under one month for most variants, according to the latest dealer information.
With this move, Volkswagen seems to be sharpening the Taigun’s value offering without compromising on its core strengths—solid build, safety, and a fun-to-drive experience.
