SCOOP: Volkswagen Virtus And Taigun GT Line To Get New Red Colour Option Soon

The Taigun and Virtus are both important products for Volkswagen in India. Both continue to enjoy great acceptance here and come in distinct Chrome and GT Line trims, in addition to the regular ones. It looks like the carmaker is now preparing a major cosmetic update to the GT line. We have learnt that Volkswagen is looking to launch the iconic 'Flash Red' colour on the Taigun and Virtus GT lines.
If you've been an admirer of the brand, you'd instantly recognise the colour. Over the years, we have seen this colour on several Volkswagen models like the original Golf from the 90s, the Polo and even the T-Roc. Many loved this vibrant, high-gloss, solid shade of Red. Its debut on the Taigun and the Virtus could possibly be an attempt to bind these closer to the German giant's signature visual identity.
In the images that we've managed to source, both the sedan and the SUV are seen wearing 'Flash Red' paint. This colour is likely to be exclusive to the GT Line. The images also reveal a few other key visual details.
On both vehicles, Black has been used to strike a sharp contrast with the Red. On the Virtus GT, the roof has been Blacked out. Black can also be found on the side-view mirrors, front grille and front and rear bumpers. The alloy wheels are also finished in Black. In addition to these, the headlamps and tail lamps seem to have been Blacked out.
On the Taigun GT, we see a lot more Black. It gets bold Black surrounds, blacked-out pillars and roof, wheels, front and rear bumpers and mirrors. The headlamps and tail lamps are darker than those found on the Virtus GT. The overall aesthetics seem to have evolved into something that's sportier and more appealing.
Volkswagen currently offers the Virtus and Taigun in 8 colours- Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel Grey, Rising Blue Metallic, Lava Blue, Deep Black Pearl, and Carbon Steel Matte Grey.
Both the Taigun and Virtus are products of Volkswagen Group's India 2.0 program. These are underpinned by the MQB A0 IN platform- a derivative of the global MQB architecture with up to 95 per cent localisation.
Two engines are on offer- a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 114 bhp and 178 Nm and a 1.5L, four-cylinder turbocharged engine which makes 150hp and 250Nm of torque. Both automatic and manual gearboxes are offered. The smaller engine gets a torque converter automatic while the 1.5L unit comes with a 7-speed DSG. The 1.0 TSI- AT configuration is now in good demand.
The Virtus is currently priced in the range of Rs 11.56 lakh- 19.40 lakh. The Taigun, on the other hand, is slightly more expensive, starting at Rs 11.80 lakh and going up to Rs 19.83 lakh for the range-topping variant.
The carmaker is known to be working on the next generation of the Virtus and the Taigun. These are expected to go on sale in 2028. Volkswagen thought about basing these on the MQB A0 37 platform. Doing so could would result in a bigger, roomier Taigun.
However, VW reportedly failed to get costs in check with this platform. If the Joint Venture with Mahindra goes through, the next-generation Taigun could be based on the NFA SUV platform. Time remains before we get to know the exact direction that Volkswagen would take with the duo.
