Volkswagen Tera Sub-4 Meter Compact SUV's Engine Details Revealed: Production Commences In South America

The German automotive giant Volkswagen has recently launched the Volkswagen Tera sub-compact SUV in Brazil. Production has commenced. Here are the first pictures.
Now, most likely in the coming few months, the company will also be launching this SUV in India as well. As per the reports, the Brazil-spec Tera will be getting a few different engine options. However, the exact India-spec Tera engine has now been revealed as well. Here are the details.
Volkswagen will offer the Tera with the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine. This engine is already seen on the newly launched Skoda Kushaq. It is also offered with other Volkswagen and Skoda cars, including the Virtus, Slavia, Taigun, and Kushaq. In all of these cars and the upcoming Tera, it will produce 118 bhp of power and 178 Nm of peak torque.
Transmission options for this variant will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. As for the other engine option, Volkswagen, at the time of the launch or a few months after the official launch, will offer the Tera with its more powerful 1.5-litre four-cylinder TSI EVO turbo petrol engine. This motor makes 150 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a DSG gearbox.
As for the engine options of the Tera offered in Brazil, the company provides this SUV with a 1.0-litre MPI naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is a three-cylinder unit that makes 84 bhp and 101 Nm of torque. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There is also a 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder motor as well, which makes 116 bhp and 165 Nm of torque, which is slightly lower than the Indian model.
Volkswagen has commenced the production of the Tera at the Taubaté plant in Brazil. This model is based on the MQB A0 platform, which is shared by the Brazilian-spec Polo, Nivus, and T-Cross. In India, this same platform also underpins the Kushaq, Virtus, Taigun, Slavia, and Kushaq.
Apart from the engine options, the upcoming Volkswagen Tera for India will be shortened in length. For those who may not be aware, the Tera launched in Brazil is longer than four meters. However, if the company brings it to India without making it an under-4m sub-compact SUV, it will be subjected to higher tax rates.
Apart from these, the Tera, in terms of design, will look the same as the Brazil-spec model. On the outside, this sub-compact SUV will get a set of traditional yet sleek and modern-looking LED headlights with LED DRLs. There will also be a bold front bumper with unique U-shaped design elements and large air dams.
Meanwhile, on the side profile, it will come equipped with a set of 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. As for the highlight, it will boast a slightly sloping roofline, which gives it a unique appearance. At the rear, the Tera will also get a set of LED taillights, a chunky rear bumper with gloss black details, and a large matte black portion.
On the inside, the Tera will come equipped with a large free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument gauge cluster, automatic climate control, and a Virtus and Taigun-like multi-function steering wheel. Apart from these, the SUV will also come with features like a single-pane electric sunroof, a wireless charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a few other features.
