Volkswagen Tera Sub-4 Meter SUV Teased Again: Launch Just Around The Corner
Taking inspiration from the Skoda Kushaq sub-compact SUV, Volkswagen is getting ready to launch its own sub-4m SUV. It will be called the Volkswagen Tera, and its official debut will take place in Brazil on March 2. The upcoming Volkswagen Tera will be unveiled at the Marquês de Sapucaí in Rio de Janeiro. This unveiling will coincide with the Rio de Janeiro Samba School Parade, which is one of the biggest cultural festivals in Brazil.
Volkswagen Tera Unveiling Soon
As per Volkswagen, the Tera is a Brazilian SUV that has been entirely designed, developed, and manufactured in Brazil. The German automotive giant has announced that it will be produced at the Taubaté plant in São Paulo. This sub-compact SUV, after its launch in Brazil, will also make its way to India to strengthen the presence of Volkswagen.
The company has shared a few teaser images of the Volkswagen Tera, which has been designed by Jose Carlos Pavone. He is the head of design for the Americas at Volkswagen. At the front, the SUV gets chunky LED headlights with two separated LED DRLs. It also gets a muscular bonnet and strong shoulder lines.
As for the side profile, the Tera sub-compact SUV gets chunky wheel arch claddings and 10-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels. Additionally, the Tera boasts a sloping roofline, which gives it a sleek yet bold silhouette. As for the rear, the SUV gets LED taillights, which have taken inspiration from the Passat and Tiguan. Presently, the company has not shared any teaser images of the interior of the Tera.
Volkswagen Tera Indian Version Details
Most likely, the Tera, which will be launched in India, will look the same as the Brazilian model. As per reports, its India debut will take place around late 2025 or early 2026. Powering the Volkswagen Tera in India will be the already tested 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. It is capable of generating 118 bhp and 178 Nm of torque.
Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. It is possible that Volkswagen could offer the Tera with the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine, which will make 150 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. This engine will be offered with both a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Volkswagen Will Also Update the Taigun
In addition to the launch of the Tera sub-compact SUV in India, Volkswagen is gearing up for the launch of the updated Taigun facelift as well. The new Taigun will get a revised front grille, headlights, and a new front bumper. Additionally, it has been reported that it will get features such as a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS, and a few others to make it more competitive in the Indian market. Powertrain options will remain the same.
Apart from the Taigun facelift, Volkswagen has also hinted that the latest generation of the Golf hot hatch will be coming to India. It will be brought into the country via the CBU route. The Volkswagen Golf will come equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which will make 265 bhp and 370 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
