Volkswagen earlier this year confirmed that they would be launching two of their popular international models, the Golf GTI and Tiguan R-Line, in the Indian market. It looks like the SUV will be launched first. Volkswagen India has now officially opened bookings for the Tiguan R-Line on its website. The official launch of the Tiguan R-Line is expected to happen on April 14. Here are 5 Reasons to Be Excited About the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line.

Sporty Design

The first thing one would notice about the Tiguan R-Line is its design. It is different from the regular Tiguan, featuring a sportier exterior with a redesigned front grille, sleeker headlamps, an R-Line badge, new alloy wheels, connected LED taillamps, and more. The SUV looks sporty with these minor exterior changes. In fact, it is the sportiest version of the Tiguan offered in the Indian market to date.

Powerful TSI Engine

The Tiguan R-Line will be the most powerful SUV in Volkswagen’s India lineup. It will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine. This 4-cylinder engine generates 204 PS and 320 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission, and power is sent to all four wheels using Volkswagen’s 4MOTION AWD system. The Tiguan R-Line has a top speed of 229 kmph and can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 7.1 seconds.

Sportier Suspension

As the Tiguan R-Line is a performance-oriented version of the regular Tiguan, Volkswagen has made necessary changes to improve the ride quality and performance of the SUV. The Tiguan R-Line will get a sport-tuned suspension, which is also expected to be slightly lower than the standard Tiguan.

Premium Interiors

The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line will feature sporty yet premium interiors. The SUV will come with features like sports seats, an ambient lighting package, a 10.3-inch R-Line-specific fully digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a drive selector knob, steering-mounted controls, ADAS, dual-zone climate control, and more. The cabin will have R-Line branding along with contrast stitching to enhance its sporty appeal. It remains to be seen whether Volkswagen will offer features like heated and ventilated seats or a panoramic sunroof with the SUV.

ADAS

In addition to premium features, Volkswagen will equip the Tiguan R-Line with a host of safety features. It will include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring as part of the ADAS suite. Other safety features include six airbags, TPMS, ESC, an electronic differential lock, a 360-degree camera, and more.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line

Volkswagen has removed the regular Tiguan from its website. It remains to be seen whether the brand will launch an updated version of the Tiguan or if they plan to offer only the R-Line version for now.

The regular Tiguan was sold for an ex-showroom price of ₹38 lakh. It was a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) SUV, whereas the upcoming Tiguan R-Line will be sold as a CBU (Completely Built-Up unit). This will affect pricing, and we expect the R-Line to be priced around ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom) when launched.
