Volkswagen has rolled out a major cosmetic update on the GT lines of Virtus and Taigun- the iconic Flash Red colour has now been added to the GT line, just as we had reported previously. The manufacturer has made it clear that the new colour will be available on a limited number of units of both vehicles. It hasn't however, revealed the exact production cap yet. Dealers have already started receiving Flash Red-painted Virtus GT and Taigun GT, and the manufacturer has already started accepting reservations for the same. The new colour option doesn't bring any change to the prices of the Virtus GT or Taigun GT. We will talk in detail about these, later in this article.

'Flash Red' is an iconic colour for Volkswagen. Over the years, it has been used on multiple VW cars- from the original Golf from the nineties, to the Polo and the T-Roc. The Taigun and Virtus get this colour only on the GT line.

Both the Taigun and Virtus are based on the MQB A0 IN platform. This is a heavily Indianised version of the global MQB platform. Two engine options are offered on both models- 1.0L TSI turbocharged petrol and 1.5 TSI turbo-petrol. The 'Flash Red' comes only on the 1.0 TSI version.

This engine is capable of producing 114 hp and 178 Nm of torque, and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Now, let's talk about the prices. The Taigun GT 1.0 has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 14.80 lakh and goes up to Rs 15.89 lakh, ex-showroom. The Virtus GT is priced in the range of Rs 14.07 lakh - Rs 15.17 lakh, ex-showroom. Here's a quick compilation of the prices:

  • Taigun GT AT: Rs 15.89 lakh
  • Taigun GT MT: Rs 14.80 lakh
  • Virtus GT MT: Rs 14.07 lakh
  • Virtus GT AT: Rs 15.17 lakh

A Closer Look At The 'Flash Red' Colour Scheme For Virtus And Taigun

For the uninitiated, the Taigun and Virtus have been broadly categorised into Chrome and Sport lines. The Chrome line looks more plush while the Sport line has visibly sportier aesthetics. The GT Plus Sport and GT Line fall under the Sport Line.

The Flash Red colour has definitely improved the visual appeals of both the sedan and the SUV. In addition to the iconic body colour, these models also get contrasting Black treatment for the roof, outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), alloy wheels, door handles and pillars. Even the lights now feature a dark theme. This treatment has made the overall aesthetics more aggressive and even more appealing.

In addition to the new paint, the Taigun GT and Virtus GT continue to be offered in six other colours- Cherry Red, Candy White, Brilliant Silver, Rising Blue, Lava Blue, and Carbon Steel.

What Is Volkswagen Trying To Do With The New Colour Option?

Volkswagen is known to be working on a midlife update to both the Taigun and Virtus. Test mule sightings of these are becoming increasingly common these days. We expect these to be out sometime next year.

The new Taigun and Virtus are expected to come with major overhauls in their respective design and feature lists. So, Volkswagen is likely trying to sell off the current inventory by rolling out cosmetic updates which make them more appealing, visually. This is a strategy that we have seen the carmaker adopt globally.

The launch of Flash Red colour was so timed that it aligns with the prospective festive season purchases of many. Previously, the carmaker had rolled out a limited-run Onam edition on the Virtus and Taigun, to capitalise on the increased purchase potential of Kerala, during the Onam festival.
