The German automotive giant Volkswagen is gearing up for the launch of five new cars for the Indian market. These new vehicles will cater to enthusiasts as well as affordable car buyers. So, if you are a Volkswagen aficionado, then you have come to the right place. Here are the details of the five new Volkswagen cars and SUVs coming to India.
The first vehicle that is coming to India for the first time on April 14 is the Volkswagen Tiguan R. This sportier iteration of the new-generation Tiguan gets a revised exterior design with a larger front grille, more aggressive front and rear bumpers, 19-inch alloy wheels, and R badges on the outside and inside. It will also get Level 2 ADAS.
Powering the Tiguan R will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor, which will generate 201 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. For transmission, it will get a 7-speed DSG gearbox. It will be brought in via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, and the company has started taking reservations for this model.
Finally, after years of requests, Volkswagen has decided to give Indian enthusiasts the Golf GTI. This hot hatchback is expected to make its debut between April and June of this year. As for the price, it will be around Rs 52 lakh. However, only 250 units of the Golf GTI will be imported into the country.
The main highlight of the Golf GTI will be its drivetrain. Volkswagen will be offering the Golf GTI with the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which is known by its codename EA888. It will make an impressive 265 bhp of maximum power and 370 Nm of torque. This motor will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The 0-100 kmph sprint will happen in just 5.9 seconds.
Apart from the enthusiast cars, Volkswagen will also be launching the facelifted iteration of the Taigun mid-size SUV in India. The new model is expected to make its debut in 2026. It will boast a new front fascia with a new front grille, new LED headlights, and a new bumper. Apart from these, it will also get Level 2 ADAS and a panoramic sunroof. Powertrain options of 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo petrol will remain the same.
In addition to the Taigun facelift, the company will also be launching the Virtus facelift. The mid-size sedan will also get exterior design updates, including a new front fascia and bumpers. It will also get a panoramic sunroof and ADAS. Like the Taigun, the powertrain options will not change.
Noting the success of the Skoda Kylaq, Volkswagen is also gearing up to enter the sub-compact SUV segment in India with the Tera. The new Volkswagen Tera was recently unveiled at the Rio de Janeiro Samba School Parade. Most likely, it will be launched in India by the end of 2025.
On the outside, it gets sleek headlights, a thin grille, and a bold front bumper. On the side profile, it will get 10-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, pull-type door handles, and thin side claddings. As for the rear, it will get an integrated spoiler and a chunky rear bumper. As for the features on the inside, it will get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument gauge cluster.
The Volkswagen Tera will initially be offered only with the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. This motor will be capable of producing 118 bhp and 178 Nm of torque. However, it is expected that the company, in the future, will also offer the 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder, which will make 150 bhp and 250 Nm of torque.
