Into its 4th generation, Honda City, with its combination of peppy engines, smooth gearbox, comfortable seating, great ride and handling and god fuel efficiency, is the sedan of choice of most customers. Honda badge and engineering add to what is a formidable product in the first place. The City has led or been a close number two in its segment ever since it was launched in 1998. Through its four generations, it has oscillated between being a performance and comfy sedan with focus on mileage. The current gen has both the qualities in equal measure. Honda City currently costs Rs 9.81 Lakhs – 14.16 Lakhs on the new car market. The Honda City is an aspirational car in India and so is a used version of the same. So for those who want to show they have ‘arrived’ City is the preferred choice. A used Honda City is also apt for someone looking at chauffeur driven car for weekdays. The rear seat comfort is best in business. A used diesel Honda City is preferred but those who are looking at extremely low running costs Hondas of past have tended to skimp on features so look for mid to high end variants. The diesel is available only in the current gen version but isn’t the best in class–its a tad noisy and rough. In short, if you want the true Honda City experience, stick with the petrol version.

A CITY used car price averages around Rs 5,85,000 in Delhi with the lower end price tending to be around Rs 4,70,000 and the upper end price tending to be around Rs 7,00,000. So, what should you go for? Which are the best used car CITY deals available on the market under 10 lakhs ?

Recommendation #1: Honda City VX MT Diesel

Year: 2015 / Kms Driven: 78,125 / List Price: Rs 600,000 / Ex Showroom Price: Rs 1,154,000

This entry, which comes at a discount of 48% to its original price is 4 years old and has done 78,125 Kms. Currently with its first owner, this coloured CITY comes with a diesel powerplant. Deals sweeten once you move to 3-5 year band. Most of the cars here would be current gen though some would be pre-facelift. This is the best City by far. Once you go above 60,000 km, you are most likely looking at a previous gen Honda City. There are no major issues but horn and headlamps were weak and airbag sensors in some cars were faulty. Do check if the latter have been fixed. You can replace the lamp and horn for not much. In any case, do get the car checked by a mechanic. Due to low ground clearance, most Citys have scraped underbody so have that checked thoroughly.
