Honda Civic

Price: Rs 1.80 lakhs/Power: 114 Bhp

The Civic is one of those timeless cars that doesn’t grow old. Get into one today, 10 years after it was launched and you will still not feel disappointed. Even to look at, the Civic is a very sporty. The sporty looks were complimented by the 1.8 liter VTEC unit that produces 132 Bhp and 172 Nm. We found a 2006 automatic variant for Rs 1.80 lakhs. The added benefit of the automatic is the fact that the Civic offers paddle shifters as well which can make for an entertaining drive. The only downside of the Civic is the low ground clearance.

Chevrolet Optra SRV

Price: Rs 1.50 lakhs/Power: 101 Bhp

The Optra SRV was a really good premium hatchback, but was something too early for its time. When it was launched, the market was not mature enough to handle a 6 lakh+ hatchback. The SRV was a good looker, was spacious and fun to drive as well. It is the only hatchback in the list. We found a 2007 model SRV for Rs 1.50 lakhs. It is powered by the same 1.6 liter engine that did duty on the Optra and it produces 101 Bhp and 140 Nm. It is an interesting buy.

Chevrolet Aveo 1.6

Price: Rs 1.4 lakhs/Power: 101 Bhp

The Aveo was a car that GM India spent a lot of money with the marketing campaign. They roped in both Rani Mukherjee and Saif Ali Khan to do the branding for the Aveo. Even that wasn’t able to do anything for the car and it never as well as the company would have hoped. Even its hatchback sibling didn’t do well. The Aveo was powered by either a 1.4 or a 1.6 liter engine. We found a 2006 Aveo 1.6 for Rs 1.4 lakhs. The 1.6 liter engine produces 101 Bhp and 146 Nm.
