The Hayabusa is powered by a 1340 cc, in-line four-cylinder engine that produces 190 PS of max power at 9,700 rpm and 150 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine now complies with BS6 emission norms. Suzuki claims that the third generation Hayabusa will deliver a fuel efficiency of 18.06 kmpl whereas the previous generation used to return 21.5 kmpl.

The previous generation did produce more power and torque. To be precise, it produced 194 bhp and 154 Nm. Hayabusa also shed 2 kgs of weight. Many people would think that the loss of power is not good for Hayabusa but Suzuki claims that the third generation is the ‘quickest Hayabusa ever’. This is true as the torque is now more evenly spread throughout the rev range. The new Busa feels quicker, nimbler, agile and more eager than the previous generation. It is only at very high speeds that a person might notice the motorcycle is not accelerating as quickly as the previous one. But that does not really matter because no one rides that fast.

Reworked engine

Suzuki has reworked the engine thoroughly. It now gets lighter pistons, updated cams, new fuel injectors, new connecting rods and a revised crankshaft. There are other changes too like longer intakes, new plating for the cylinders, a new swirl promoting combustion chamber and a new fuel injection system. All this has helped in improving the performance of the engine and it has also helped in regulating the emissions.

Changes

The seat height is now 5 mm less at 800 mm. So, shorter riders should now feel more comfortable in keeping their toes on the ground. The length of the motorcycle has been decreased by 10 mm. The handlebar position has been revised. The clip-ons now sit 12 mm closer to the rider so the rider does not need to stretch out to grab the handlebars.

Electronics

One of the biggest updates to the third generation Busa is the addition of the electronics suite. Suzuki has kept the analogue instrument cluster but has added a screen through which the rider can control various functions of the motorcycle.

The Hayabusa now comes with cruise control, hill hold control, slope dependent control, active speed limiter, motion track brake system, Suzuki Easy Start System, Launch Control and much more. It now also gets riding modes. There are 6 riding modes. Three come from the factory while the other three can be configured by the rider. Hayabusa now also gets a bi-directional quick-shifter.
